loft raceboard 9.5 can any one help with the tune on this sail,.should it be down hauled fairly flat or left full,i find it has a lot of pressure pushing on my front hand( IE wants to round up) and has a fair bit of back hand pressure ,the bag and the sail has contradicting settings. the sail always feels heavy to use. lt has the correct mast with this sail.cheers Greg
I haven't tried that sail but if you use an adjustable down haul and outhaul you should be able to find a optimum setting for any given set of conditions and/or points of sail while your on the water.

i am trying to set up adjustable down haul but i don,t have enough pulleys on the rdm base still have to sort something out, just found some info on the loft site regarding measurements. ill try re rigging.
I find outhaul helps best to stop the sail trying to slam you in the water upwind when powered up.
Adjustable outhaul is a must. But you'll also require enough downhaul to be able to get the outhaul tight enough if you follow what i mean...
The downhaul flattens the sail but you need the outhaul to keep it flat when the wind is in the sail.
Downwind minimum outhaul is best
if you have the correct mast, make sure your downhaul is correct, I haven't had Loft Race but I've had Loft Blades and many Switchblades and so long as you are within several cm of max downhaul these sails handle beautifully. I cant see you can use an adjustable downhaul as the tension is considerable and on that size you may need a winch. I usually use neutral outhaul, although I am now using an adjustable and trying different settings.

its loft 520-33 100% rdm it has a thicker section around the middle the specs on the sail call for a 520 expert rdm
You definitely can set up an adjustable downhaul to overcome the tension.
Maybe if you can meet up with some other experienced QLD raceboarders, they can quickly show you how to set up the sail for different conditions.

hi duff i am in north qld townsville and have not seen the set up here.there are only a few sailors up here, if any one has photos can you post.
i know nothing about Loft sails - as we are in N. America
however, even though I have seen discussion about LOFT having long RDM masts, I have always been against that
in sails over 7 meter squared

ALL the sails seem to recommend SDM and even 530 as opposed to 520 !!

yes i have that sorted as well,just have to experiment now,thanks for the help.

125 kg i am big to,not sail fit but.
got to try out my adjustable down haul in building winds on the beach.the way i first had the haul would not release easily ,so i put the cleat pulley down the bottom and only went around the top once this worked well.when pulled up tight the back hand pressure reduced.only problem is the belt i used to attach it to the mast would slip down the mast, i am going to change to rope to fix this,the adjustable out haul kept slipping through the cleats,so i am going to put thicker rope and try again.do you put any thing around the mast to stop the top slipping.
I use a double wrap around clove hitch type knot that was taught to me when i started. I think other people use different types of knots and if you figure out a good one it shouldn't slip at all.
Lose the hook pulley and use two double fiddle blocks with v cleats. If you just use one you will end up with a huge length of rope dangling off your rig getting tangled in feet and and centreboard and around your mast.

thanks didn't think of that, i was going to use some bungy cord to keep of the deck
