Is there anyone down at Yepoon that could help out a learner windsurfer that just needs to be shown a little to get going on his own and where would be the best place to start, got a variety of gear to get on the water.

Matt,
Good to hear you are keen to get into windsurfing. What gear do you have and have you had any lessons yet? Send us a pm with your details and I'll contact you.
Cheers,
Brian

Should be down in Yeppoon in a couple of weeks with gear to have a go if anyone could help a learner.
Matt,
First things first - have you had any windsurfing lessons or are you starting from scratch? Unfortunately Yeppoon is not blessed with any flat water spots apart from the Causeway Lake which is really your only option as trying in the ocean to learn the mechanics of windsurfing coupled with the added difficulty of the waves throwing you off balance will quickly kill your enthusiasm. As you are living in Emerald I'd be inclined to suggest you start on the Dam as the wind will probably be that much lighter and the water very flat. This way you can learn the core skills and not get into too much trouble. The Causeway is not the most user friendly spot although if you do go there launch from the boat ramp ornear the boat hire place and don't go east of the small channel marker near the rock retaining wall as there as some very sharp rocks and is populated by stonefish.
Next time you're down I can show you how to rig up the gear and give you some fundamental pointers. It would also be prudent to download some beginner's videos off Youtube to gets some general tips.
Here's a thread that may help www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/General/Videos-to-help-beginners/ (ignore the one with the girl uphauling in high heels and suspenders
)
Also Guy Cribb has some great advice on his website www.guycribb.com/intuition0013v01.htm

Brian
EDIt - Since you're a boaty Keppel Is is another option to learn as beautiful clear flat water off main or putney beach in anything from east to south (although it may be a little gusty). Trouble with this is it is offshore so you'd need someone to be spotting you otherwise you could end up at Corio Bay.
