What windsurfing spots around OZ are especially good for jibing practice? Would appreciate recommendations regarding areas where there are steady winds, shallow sandy bottom (for easy remount after blown jibes), relatively flat water.
Wallis lake on Mid north NSW coast. It is waist deep for about 1km off shore on the eastern side near Pacific Palms.
Also, learn to waterstart if you cannot already. It is much easier to learn to gybe when you are not worried about falling in. (And being worn out by uphauling again!)
I first really cracked planing gybes at South West Rocks. The reason why is on a nor easter wind the swell swings around the point and goes from cross on to being cross to cross off. Once I got my timing right I was able to gybe onto the wave face and the wave would push me through the gybe.
It was great fun.
Otherwise as Harrow mentioned, Pacific Palms at Wallis Lake is great for flat water, very safe conditions.
BTW the preferred spelling is gybing.
Jibing is something the brothers do down Harlem.
Potentially could go just about anywhere - Queensland, NSW, even Western Australia. Availability of rental gear would be a consideration.
