Seeking suggestions for holiday destinations in the South Pacific? Looking to go in the first half of Feb with my partner. If windsurf gear can be rented that would be a big bonus. It sounds like Feb is not the windiest time for many destinations though. We are happy to consider Fiji, Cook Islands, French Polynesia, etc.

My partner has said she doesn't want anywhere "too rough, nor too swanky or corporate, and preferably where we can contribute our tourist dollars to locals and not some multinational corporation".

Any ideas?

Pedro e, We (Wife, son & brother) went to Safari Lodge in Fiji in September.
It was a great place and Warren and family were good hosts ensuring there was always some thing to do.

Unfortunately we got there as a windy cycle had just finished, we had to wait 4 days for some sailable wind.
We took up an offer to stay longer at no additional charge! How good is that!

In the meantime we went on snorkelling trips, wake boarding, fishing, more snorkelling feeding fish and long walks and a trip to the main town.

Actually, thinking about it... it was the most relaxing holiday I have ever had..

The accom was definitely not "too rough".
This statement comes from my wife that vacuums twice a day at home!
They are nice and new and are cleaned each day.

I even did some of the free yoga sessions in the mornings.

We stayed in the beach front Bure which had an fantastic view of the water and was very close to the main lodge where fantastic meals were served.

View from the balcony: My Bro blasting along...

The gear was all new and it was great to swap and change boards and rigs to try them all out.

When the wind did come in it was nice and constant.
It was amazing to be flying over coral reefs..

Not sure when the windy season stops..
Check out the website for more info.

or if you want anymore info just ask.
Gav.

Hi Pedro. The disadvantage to Fiji that time of year is that it's the wet/cyclone season - http://www.fiji-islands.com.au/weather.cfm .

The rain doesn't matter, but it seems like the problem would be that the trade winds would be lighter than in the winter. A place like that is too good to waste on summer, as the weather there in winter beats Sydney or Melbourne hands down.

If you like fish curries, it is a great place to eat as well! There's also a kiosk on the island where you can buy a steak sandwich or two, and all that sort of good stuff if you aren't too keen on fish.

Does Sydney classify as the South Pacific? You're welcome to give your cash to some of the locals here
