Hi all,

Does anyone have some good links to web sites or posts that discuss trips to maui.
To my dismay my wife told me she would like to go hawai for a few weeks this year as it is somewhere we have never been. I have convinced her the best time to go would be around june - august :)

i plan on travelling fairly light and only taking my harness + board shorts etc. then hiring all equipment over there. if anyone can help me out with some of the folloing info it would be greatly appreciated.

1. Where to stay - any suggestions on town / motels or shared house if anyone has room to spare :) just me and wife - no kids.

2. what dates are good to go - is better to avoid the S holidays etc.

3. Where to hire equipment / van for transport.

4. any pitfalls we should try to avoid.

5. visa / entry requirements for australian passports.

6. Who to fly with - does it make much difference if not taking own gear.

We can afford to stay in relative comfort and not looking for cheap + nasty budget stuff. That being said its better to book well in advance to avoid unneccessary price hikes that occur as you get closer to travel dates.

Cheers
Craig

Don't have any info for Maui but to answer Q.5

If you don't have a criminal record you can enter as a tourist on their Visa Waiver programme ei: no Visa required. Travelling to US on an Aussie passport you will need a machine readable passport ( MRP ) .

travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1990.html

And you will have to fill out a ESTA web form at least 72 hrs before you travel and get authorisation or they may not even let you board your flight!

Hi, have just been through the same planning, there is good info on www.boards.co.uk, a guy called Harry spent some time there and wrote up his trip - he recommended this site for accomo:

VRBO - I have just used it and found it excellent, direct links to owners and sorted out a place right on beach for a reasonable rate (unless you want to stay in hotels, there are plenty of other sites)

Kit - he suggested kakahaki - looks good to me, sounds like you don't really need to take your harness, all the rental places include them in the gear rental

Sounds like Paia is best location to stay for being close to windsurf action, and also getting around the spots to see with the non-windsurfer
