I'm seeing a pt and he reckons that I should be able to do one legged squats in order to windsurf better.

They're seriously difficult. Can anyone else do them? (ps warm up first and I cannot be held responsible for bits of patella that may spray across your living room if you're not up to it)

This is what I mean (only I'm talking without weight)

Yeah they're pretty tough.

I wouldn't recomend anyone do the full range of motion untill you know your up for it, just do the top half of the squat and slowly go lower as you build up strength over time.

Other ways of doing it that dont put so much emphasis on stability are by tucking your "spare" leg under you bum, not out in front and by doing them adjacent to a wall or in a doorway so you can reach out to your side for stability.

And exploding knee parts can happen, i have a mate who did some serious damage to a knee doing exactly this excersise..... SO BE WARNED

Even better just windsurf more and you get all the w/s conditioning you need

they are amazingly difficult to do. i can only get down around one foot max.

i know a 54 year/old who can do around 5 in a row of these on both legs.

the other a 23 year/old can also do them both legs.

my 20 inch legs makes it impossible for me!

what is the most anyone can do?

Ginger Pom, Do you windsurf on one leg? Can you do full range BW Squats 1st before attempting this??? I agree, done wrong can put ALOT of unnecessary stress on the front of the knee...There is ALOT of great exercises to help build strength to help sail for longer and avoid more injuries...Does your PT Windsurf??? If you want to talk about some cool functional exercises for windsurfing give me a yell, cheers Brendan 0414 985 506
