so went for a sail today, in the ocean, noticed that when fully lit, I seem to pull up my toes on the front foot, sort of push the heel down and try to pull up on the strap, I think this has become my normal front foot mode and Im questioning if its correct it dosent feel quite comfortable, although not wrong, Im aware to 'point' the toes to level the board to max speed, and I seem to do that with the back foot which feels well beded in, but the front foot dosent seem right. Im going to move the straps squarer to the rail and see what that does...
Sailing in ocean chop cross shore, short runs, negotiating the chop.
comments?
I'm not sure I understand it correctly, do you have the feeling that your front foot wants to lift your foostrap? If it's the case, you have 2 choices, lower down a bit the boom or bring your mast base a bit forward to be confortable and enhance controle. If it's not what you meant, no worries.. ;-)
I only sail in the ocean, and when I feel that, which is fairly often, it's usually an indication that I'm getting over powered. You are instinctively trying to go more upwind so that you can dump some power, you are probably adding weight to your rear foot, at the same time, for the same reason.
But that doesn't always mean that it's time to go rig something smaller, that would depend on your comfort level.
I wouldn't go changing the strap position just yet, the fronts should have some angle on them to be proper, damn near 45*.
It is the board railing up, you counteract it with heel pressure.
Usually it is because you are over finned and the fin lift is making the windward rail rise.
This was happening to me yesterday, I noticed it when I was pointing upwind and when I bear away my front foot was flat. I guess I was trying to use the rail more to point higher. ?
Yeah it may just be normal I was sailing a twinser and as I hadnt been out for a while I was tuning up for the season as such I was checking everthing out, Im pretty sure I always do this, its OK but does seem as if theres something not quite rigt, I was on a 4.7 on a 92 l twinser, it was gusty but I was well powered, short runs and chop hopping. Plenty of speed and control.....
It's normal and how you lever the board against fin pressure. It will be more notiiceable on slalom gear and more powered up conditions.
This guy does it well

Going upwind looking at his front foot...
