local councillors said they were doing all they could and would start shart culling in February.
what is a shart? and don't sail at dawn or dusk anyway thats for breakfast and dinner & wine/beer

To me that is as logical culling kangaroos because a few have jumped in front of a car and caused fatalities. The warning there is also to take extreme caution dusk till dawn.
I guess they don't cull roos for this reason because they look so damned cute..

They cull roos because they are in epic proportions. I used to know a couple of guys that worked in roo culling. They said when you go to outback NSW they almost look like a plague of cockroaches roaming the landscape.Of course the problem as most things in Australia are man made. Due to heavy deforestation to create grass and farm land the kangaroos had more habitat created for them. It's quite simple. More grass means more food and more food means more kangaroos.
I think though thats a bit different to culling sharks. In regards to culling sharks there are few unanswered questions. Do sharks learn that humans can be food? Ie if a shark bites once is it like to bite again? Apparently grizzly bears do exactly that. Once they identify a human as an easy food source they will come back for more.
Also, is there any correlation in more sharks with less food in the ocean resulting in more shark attacks?Logic would dictate that the only way to make the ocean 100% safe would be to get rid of all sharks. But what's next? Get rid of all crocs because they eat people as well?
Everyone knocks the jet skiers. Maybe they do have a purpose. I don't think many shart's would hang around with all the noise those that is generated. Wonder what the score is in Botany?

Something doesn't add up here. The Raceboard Nationals were held on Botany Bay last weekend!
In the early nineties there were prominent shark warning signs all along the little Grand Parade foreshore.
They were pretty graphic from memory,big jaw with sharp teeth,bathing dangerous etc.
One day the signs all disappeared.
So there must have been an incident of sorts which would have prompted the erection of the signs in the first place I'm guessing.
Anyways I've never seen a shark in the bay and don't know anyone who has.
I guess I need to point out the obvious here but the THREAD was a parody thread and was referencing pollution in botany bay.
it had nothing to do with sharks. it was all about sharts.

Yes. The signs were there in the eighties as well.
They said "Sharks in Botany Bay"
The signs looked quite old and faded then so they must have been around for a while.
