Is it a select fin. had this thread a while ago and most whistling came from different types of select fins when hitting over 20knts.

Keef , Get some 400 wet and dry sandpaper on a really flat block . Give it a few passes up the trailing edge on about a 30deg angle . Sharpen up the trailing edge ( but don't turn it into a dangerous knife edge) Should fix the problem.

My JP weedy has started to hum lately... I like it, the pitch tells me how fast I'm going without having to look at the GPS

The stock fin on my F2 hums too, I'll try sanding the trailing edge but would be interested to hear any other ideas or opinions

Sounds kinda cool, like altering the cars muffler. With your new noise polution machine perhaps you could start sailing as close to swimmers and kids as you can and make friends with all the jetskis fools.

Bah sorry, just my anti-jetski beef.

Having had a bunch of select fins I've had enough singers to start a choir! But it's not limited to Select.

I start by running some sandpaper along the point of the leading edge first, ie. to blunt it slightly. This get's rid of any imperfections that may not be immediately obvious. I then sharpen the edge as suggested. This has silenced even the serious offenders.

However I do admit that some of my fins could be used to shave with if my razor ever broke down. [}:)]

thanks to everyone i finnally had a good look at the fin and noticed i hadn't sanded the filler coat after doing a carbon laminate
after fileing the leading edge with a file and sanding with the foam sanding pads problem solved
has anyone used these foam pads ,if not get them, you can dry sand without scratching,( its like being wet sanding), they dont clog like paper, and wash out under the tap and you can use them as wet and dry sanding
last winter i made a board and use'd these pads to sand the paint job, and was amazed that i didnt need water and today i wet them out to clean them and sanded wet, and was totally blow'n away
as we all know if you buy a new board this season , next season the bottom will need to be lightly sanded as well as your fins , my advice is atleast try them
