No matter what I can't seem to get the bottom cam on my 7.8 techno sail to rotate easily without crazy hard pumps or pushing it with my hand or knee.
Am rigging on 460 mast. have tried lube makes it easier but still requires massive pumps.
any solutions or do i just have to wait till it stretches out a bit?![]()
Post a picture of the cam. I just modified some of mine on a different brand sail. I took 4mm off about the thickness of one spacer. On the problem cam Easy job.
I started another thread on how I did this. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/General/Modifying-Cams-on-Severne-race-sails?page=1

Could be one of the following:
.Too much downhaul
.Not enough outhaul
.Too much tack strap.
.Broken Widget
This is what i found with my 7.8 and 8.5
Also when you pull on downhaul on technos (some older NP sails) The cams dont pull down with the mast,
So when you pull downhaul you should feed the camber with the mast so it stays align (this prevents the widget from snapping)
(I apologise if this is general knowledge
)
If it's the correct mast. Remove cam spacer if present.
If no spacer, reduce length of cam by grinding off 3mm from the back of the cam.
If it's not the correct mast, try a different one.
Or, live with it, the sail will be very stable when over powered.

It wont be legal then?
technos with normal mast usually rotate well, they take like 1-2 sessions to stretch a little but after that its all the same.

it's not my downhaul or outhaul as my friend who is a good techno sailor showed me how to rig.
it might be the broken widget and i have a feeling it is the cams not coming down the mast when down hauling.
im going to take out the batten and see if its broken at the luff side before the widget.
i have used the mast on a np 6.7 rs racing slalom sail with the massive cams and they rotate perfect and they have spacers to make them tighter.

are you using the 490 mast on the 7.8 or the 460.
tahe australia said that the 490 mast should work better for it.

490, If your widget is broken i'd take it out as fast as you can, found a nasty surprise myself a few months ago it chewed my batten and my sail., Do you rig with spacers?

You have to manually pull the camber after a few uses, The widget wont pull the camber itself it will just stretch then break.

My one cent worth on cams not quite clicking in .
With my large NP V8 9.4 and 8.7 the camms don't flip over all the way . I've done mods to improve this but it's not the answer .
The fix for me and hopefully for you is .. when flipping the sail , instead of yanking on the boom to flip the camms , go wild on the back hand only to get the rotation . It's a game changer for me .
Hope this may work for you .![]()

(just joking the techno gear is just an older design)
