Hi all,

What is the biggest sail you have "legally" rigged onto a 460 mast?

And "illegally"?

Would rather not get a bigger mast at the moment... already need a new 7.5m sail

Cheers,

K

The new Evo III 7.8 rigs on a 460, down from a 490.

Severne seems to be a winner.

And the 8.5 fits on a 220 boom too!!!

Kdog, What is your 460 mast? Will have a bearing on what brand sail you buy I would think, compatible mast bends and that old can of worms!!!

And yet I am blasphemously rigging a brand new Koncept 6.6 on an antique Fibrespar Reflex 3200 from the Stone Age and going very fast on it.

Niel Pryde sail on SailWorks mast ?
thought one was flex top and constant curve the other
also thought using these carbon extensions put certain parts of the mast at the "wrong places" - example: boom apparently goes on a re-enforced area of mast
for me it sounds like these long carbon extensions create "hard bottoms"
curve has to be impacted and thus affect sail fit AND performance

my dilemma is the opposite: what is smallest sail that will fit on a CC 490 mast ?
so far SW has won with their Retro line - 7.0 and 7.5 go on 490 well
also Gaastra 2010 Matrix 7.5

may the wind gods be with you all

Ken Ho, Not blasphemy. Reflex 3200 was a true CC 12-12.5% ( pretty sure anyway) which makes it great in a Koncept. Good to see the mast still going strong!!

K dog, if you could post what type of mast it is it would help people give you more accurate advice on the best sails for you.

K-Dog - isn't it a GT mast? 70% carbon or something?

That's it Jez - I have a GT Gunn 75% Carbon 460.

My old Koncept 7.5 rocked on it, but is definitely too old and ripped for recovery...

I am playing with the idea of selling my 105 board to get a formula and get into some bigger sails = more time on water... or just bigger sails on my 105 Hypersonic........

Now I know I have a few options

an older NP V8 8.5m on a old North 460cm with a 50cm Prolimit mast extension
so I get 510cm mast , i think the sail wanted 512 luff

That's interesting, because it certainly rigs well and sails very fast.
I've paired it with an RRD X-Fire 102 with a 36cm Maui Ultra Race fin, and it's made me very happy.
I thought the low carbon content of the old mast would attract some ire though.
I've heard too many stories of mast failure with high carbon masts to ever be too keen.

Just a thought,
your mast is probably coming in 2 parts.
how bad would it be to have a 3rd one added (like 1.5 m extra) ?
Any brand has tried that ?
I can hear all those fanatics of the perfect flex for the perfect sail

North have tried this a year or two ago, but I am not sure how well it has done. I suspect not many places have stocked it, so therefore not many people have tried it.

I have a Neil Pryde RS Slalom EvoIV 8.6 that rigs on a 460 with 34 extension and Boom 223.
Would probably work better on a 490 with 4 extension but it is good for me.

Hey what about a 2010 Neil Pryde H2 8.7 metre. Its a 495 luff so you should get it on a 460 with about a 35 extension. 223 boom.
