I'm seriously starting to wonder what the hell I've have done to offend the world this week.
This week has been a battle of will's between me and the world, Will I survive the week or will the world get the better of me, I know it will in the long run anyway but this seems to be a bit of a concerted effort against me.
Here's my week thus far
Monday
Woke up to find that the RCD on the house had tripped, unfortunately at the time my bore (which runs on a seperate circuit) had been running for around 30 mins up against a closed vale.
Switched the power back on, 15 mins later does it again, reset 15mins later click, 2 hours of trying to isolate the issue came up with zip.
Rest of the day no probs. Got home ran around with a multimeter checking all the plugs still zip, cool may have been an isolated problem.
Went out for a sail, got down there wind was dropping but was up and down anyway, hit the water and it was more down than up spent the next hour chugging.
Packed up the kit checked the phone 8 messages from my Beloved "cars broken" she's not happy, get home feeling a wee bit miffed to find the alternators has kicked the bucket, ouch.
Tuesday
Wake up to find the powers out again
back to the process of elimination still can't suss it even though it trips out a few more times, got me stuffed so we leave everything bar the fridge and washer switched of for the day.
Manage to find an Auto electrician who can work on the car he confirms its the alternator $450![]()
Still no more problems with power, put the portable RCD box from shed on fridge as auto defrost elements are usual villains
Wednesday
Wake up the powers on
woo hoo.
Work's not to bad![]()
Get home do some more work, decide to go for a sail as there has been a bit of wind outside so should be able to have a bit of a play to get this week out of my system, hook up the trailer hmm winds backing of, rock up at the beach, hmmm glass off![]()
Hmmm whats that hissing noise
it's not the trees, bit of a look around, Bugger it's one of my trailer wheels rapidly deflating
fortunately I have a spare
unfortunately it's flat
fortunately I have a compressor![]()
Thursday
Take the wheels of so as I can get tyres replaced, spin the hub's, hmm square bearings
Bugger.
Decide to take the day in lieu of working whilst on leave to do the chasing around.
Sitting in the tyre shop I get the "Phone me" message from my Beloved
call her up, I get the cheerful news
that the car has blown a radiator hose
organize a hose for it.
Driving back from Perth the wind is starting to come in for the first time this week the cars getting a bit of buffeting, the world really does hate me![]()
Get the hose at 5pm get home and change the hose and discover that the mob who serviced the car last had some numbnutz on the tools who has actually crushed the top radiator nozzle some much that it has all fallen apart, so now I have to get a new F'ken radiator for the car as well.
Friday
Going to have to chase up a radiator now for the car.
There is one consolation in all of this which I can rely on, that is I'm going to stay healthy(ish) so that I can fully appreciate the efforts gone into making my life interesting this week.
I will not surrender, I will not give up, I will survive (I hope)
I just hope this week ends soon
What a week! Hope I'm not too late this can save you big bucks. I can offer assistance to your alternator problem. You seem to be a guy who's got some logic and who's not afraid to poke testers into places that can kill you so this will be a piece of cake.
Remove the alternator belt. Remove the wiring to the alternator, take note of what connected where. Remove the alternator. Find the brushes which are connected to little springs in a housing. Just follow the wires. Most of the time this IS the problem. Brushes wear out like brake pads. They can be unclipped, unscrewed, unbolted or whatever and take the worn brushes (sometimes with housing) down to your friendly auto sparky (not the one that gave you a $450 quote). Get a match for it and refit. To do a proper job clean the alternator before dissasembling the brushes with any cleaner that has no residue and quickly dries such as brake cleaner (spray can). All up cost of brushes around $20.
The savings will give you a radiator for free! Celebrate with a case of beer for yourself.![]()
Your cute Elmo, all the girls love ya. if you lived in melbourne i could of fixed it for nothing. i have repaired alot of alternators my friend. 450 to repair a alternator?? tell him he is dreaming
and if the stress gets to ya emlo, hope on ya windsurfer and ride those waves son in WA, you will come back as a changed man![]()
Cars done, it's a Subyroo so bits aren't cheep for it anyway,
Electricary is beyond me, and living in the outer my lady needs the car so it's a necessity to get it back up and running straight away.
This is all just a minor ripple in the cess pool of life, admittedly this ripple is far far greater than the swell (or lack thereof) hitting the Pth metro coast at the moment.
The intention was to give you a few chuckles at someone else's misfortunes.
Fortunately the red fur is scotchguarded so the crap doesn't stick to much![]()
Wake up breathing...it's a good day!![]()
All the other things are just life experiences, good or bad (is there actually a bad...or is it what we make of them?)
At the end of your day/week/month/year/life...it all creates a good story of reflections!
And, yeah...think of it as you'll soon get the wind you now deserve even more! ![]()
