Hi everyone,
I am not an experienced wave sailer and I am looking for the most suitable board for all conditions I find. I am 82 Kgs using in average 5m2 sail but also 5,8m2 down to 4.0m2 mostly in choppy conditions but sometimes also 1-1,5 mt waves for jumping and surfing (I try). I need help for choosing among the boards I have (need only slight repair) - Drops Slash 88, or - F2 Maui Projet M (94lt) and the boards I could buy now: - RRD FSW 95 (2009) or - Naish wave pro 95 (2007-8). Any suggestions? Are the first two boards good enough for an intermediate surfer or buying a newer concept board is it really muche easier to improve myself? Which board? Thanx!
Maui Project - very fragile
Slash - too rockered (waveboard, not FSW)
Naish wave pro - same, too rockered (waveboard, not FSW)
RRD - good construction and is is a FSW but 95L is pretty big for you
As per Mark, I think the RRD is the way to go, but the 85 / 84 litre would be much better for those conditions / your weight / the sail sizes mentioned.
Both that and a JP FSW 84 would be great for riding over chop as most years both boards have plenty of double-concave. The JP FSW is fantastic at jumping and I imagine that the RRD would be similarly good.
They're not going to be epic wave boards, but they'll certainly get you out there so you can have some fun.
The RRD 85 would be the go I reckon. One of my all time favourite boards and I can't believe I traded it on a speed board that I got to use (poorly) twice. I'm same weight as you and have used it with 5.7m down to 4.2m. Could not believe how easy this board was. I had the 2008 LTD orange one. Loved the art.
