Had some great days here (South West Rocks) and elsewhere this year, but nothing has beaten this freakish day. Still gives me goosebumps.

What he said
'where' - Kyeemagh last wednesday
'what with' - a bunch of mates
'why' - I have problems remembering further back than that
Tardy,
That looks so refreshing. Water looks pretty shallow for about 50 yards from shore. I would probably be having a couple beers throughout that session.
If you want sand west oz has plenty .beers ..yes ...speed runs .in the shallow near shore ...yes ..a great memory .with two mates...yards wats that.? 20 metre .?we'll say
George lake - jp69/Koncept 5.4
I think I was the last one to sail there last year, the upper and middle lakes were totally dry, from the spit I had to walk about 200 metres to find some water. Just driving there with my mazda 2 was an adventure. No one around, just the black swans, what a feeling that place has. Did my mile pb.

Exhausted fun session Jan 2016, lost control of rig walking kit in on shore line, near on dislocated elbow
Took ages to come good.
Collateral damage with wind swept hammered gear. $$$$$
Haven't windsurfed since. Lost passion for the sport, look at full kit now n then, thinking yea-----nar.
^ funny
when someone says memorable, one presumes a positive memory
guess the question s/b best memory of 2016 and perhaps worst
sorry to hear about yours

Happy new year. ![]()
New years eve had a great arvo sail. 7m weather and flat water and some mates to sail with what more can you ask for.
Set a goal for this season to learn to gybe and then improve my Alpha's. Had a goal of getting a 20 kts alpha before the end of the year got one today
. I'm now making 60-70% of my gybes also so really happy with that.
It also reflected in the distance that I have been sailing also as I'm not doing as much swimming.
I was at corros yesterday too pirate stu. My first time sailing there and definitely my best session for 2016. Nearly didn't happen as I left the keys to my tiedowns back in Perth! 15 minutes of prying and wriggling had the board free though. Had two or three runs then put my knee through my 4.7
but taped it up and headed back out.
That was my second bucket list spot in one year after going to Maui in May
hard to choose which was most memorable. Corros was way better conditions but just being on Maui probably made that the winner.
This summer in Perth has been the best year for wind in the 25 years I've sailed.
Nearly a seabreeze every day from the start of October.
The skin in the soles of my feet is peeling away from too much sailing.
Epic racing yesterday from Melville to Point Walter in 15-25 knots.
Those long 4 km plus reaches really take a toll on your body - especially at 51.
Nearly 12 hours in bed today - recovering from the last two days sailing - or is that ordeal.
In the next few years seriously thinking about becoming a once a week sailor.
Just sailing with my mates and others, enjoying the moments and memories that were made along the year 2016. ![]()
A pod of dolphins surfaced close to me while sailing, that in itself is no big deal, it's happens many times, but not like this time.
There were about 5 or 6 of them, swimming along in perfect formation like half of a chevron, in line, but staggered off to one side, with about a half body length of overlap to the next in line. They surfaced in order very quickly making their dorsal fins looking like a big circular saw blade rotating out of the water and then sinking back in.
I so wish I was able to catch that on a vid, but I don't sail with a camera. It was perfection like they were trained to do that.
Mastbender,
That is so beautiful to see. I had that happen to me when I sailed out of Ventura, California. Swimming in staggered form.
Dec 31...not sure if I had any others(too much sup :) :( ...wind dropped off just as I got to Pelli point...so after some hesitation decided to rig the 8.2 ...by the time I got out there the wind was strong ,25-30 knots apparently and was having trouble getting in the straps of my new futura which wasn't set up enough for my intermediateness :)...thanx for the hire guy for selling me on giving a 131 Go a shot...footstraps set to easy and managed to hang onto it all for about 50 mins :)...good times :)...left lat is sore now :)...which tells me I should be getting out there more often ![]()
EASY ....
LITTLE LAGOON ,WEST OZ. November 25 th.aaahhhhh.
Looks like Sarfety Bar :)

Tell us honestly , did u poop just a little when you first saw those fins ?
Its happened a couple times to me and I sphincta puk every time

Not even close, seen too many dolphins as well as sharks in my life, one propels himself vertically, one propels himself horizontally, it's pretty easy to get that image ingrained in your head for an instant reaction.
The only thing I instantly react to is dolphin or female killer whale? But even that would be a rare sighting, killers don't show up very often.
But truth be told, I might poop just a little whenever I see a Humpback or California grey whale surface in front of me, that happens quite often, and it would be terrible to collide with one of them. I've had several close calls, and when you see their backs up close, you know you'd hate to fall across one of those, it would be like falling on a cheese grater. All those barnacles would shred your body and equipment, not to mention being tossed by a fluke.
It would have to be Christmas Eve at Liptons, when after trying for 21 months I finally got past 33.97 knots and scored 34+. In doing so I realised that a good 5 X 10 second was there for the taking and I did 67 km trying to get 5 good runs (and managed it). I was having so much fun I only stopped because it was getting late and people would be looking for me. Returning to the beach there were a bunch of my team mates there who also scored personal bests that day in everything from 150 km distance to 26 knot + alphas and 34+ nautical mile. We were a very happy crew, and it was fantastic to share the buzz with good friends. It was Christmas eve and I was so excited I could hardly sleep - and it had nothing to do with Santa, he had already delivered!
Notable mentions include:
- 20+kt SEer Cox Bank in Feb
- 20+kt ESEer Amity Sand banks in June
- 25+kt NEer Yamba in October
- 25+kt Northly Lota Creek in October
- 30+kt WSWer Sandy Pt in November
- 15+kt NEer Budgewoi in December
However, despite the light winds, my best session was Windfest 2016. 9 straight days and nearly 500 kms of sailing (including a session on Lake Cootharabah on the way up) with 50 other entrants at beautiful Burrum Heads.
