Ordered a new 135 Crossfire the other day (85 wide) and now I'm shopping around for some fins to suit her up.

I'll probably use this board with my 8.5 Koncept mainly, so I figure I'll get a 48 pointer of some description. Also considering options for an XXL weedie for missions down to Mandurah.

So far I've identified the 46 MFC weedburner and the Select XXL Weed Eliminator Freerace as two viable options. Unfortunately the Choco weedies don't come any bigger than 40, which is a shame cos I really rate my 40 Choco weedie.

So, can anyone offer me an opinion on these weed fins and/or suggest alternatives? Base will have to be deep tuttle.

Thanks.

How'd you manage that...the website lists the 46 Weedburner for USD209?

Have they increased the price since you ordered yours?

Thanks for the link BTW, prices look to be good.

The fin box on the Crossfire is stated as 'Deep Tuttle'. Does this imply a different base to regular tuttle?

Any tuttle head will fit in a deep tuttle box, you just need longer screws

Deep tuttle will not fit in a tuttle box.

Is it possible that the 40 cm will be OK??? I use a 40 cm choco weed with my sonic 125 l - 75 wide and 8.5... It is more then enough fin...

I guess 75 to 85 cm width is quite a step though...

Yeah, well..unfortunately the prices have gone up since my last purchase.

I was searching on-line for a company called hydrotech, that manufactures weed fins in sizes ranging from 30cm to 48cm that came in both tuttle and powerbox and did'nt have the fin protruding 'for and aft of the box itself. At all avenues I was directed to "in-house", an on-line shop that only ships to Canada and the USA, so I opted for the MFC 46cm and have'nt looked back.
The fin works great on my Rocket 125 with a 7.2 or 7.7m sail.
There may be a few more around by the way things are shaping up so you might get a chance to try one out before you decide.

Pepe, thanks for the reply. I forgot I started this thread until just now

I think Pugwash might be right, the Choco 40 might be OK for the 135/8.5 combo (It's a pretty powerful fin for a weedie and the Choco website reckons it covers the range 7.5 - 9.0). I'll try out the Choco before I buy another fin.

Sboardcrazy a weed fin usually has around 40-45 degrees of rake so it sheds weed. They don't go upwind as well as regular 'pointer' fins, but they're essential for sailing places like the estuary in Mandurah which is clogged with green snot!

Pointman, get a bigger fin than a 40cm. I use my SX XL 235x80cm 135L often and yes the choco 40 works, but it does feel underfinned. Its fine for really powerd up sailing. i find its ok with the 7.8m but with my 8.4m its just too small. I tried my new MFC weed burner 46today with my 8.4m. It was rock solid. Even underpowerd i could fly upwind and it gives plenty of lift.
