Hi all,
I'm hoping someone can help me, I've got a NP X9 180-230 carbon boom (a couple of years old) with the square slalom tail end that I would like to use with my NP H2 Racing 8.7m sail (specs: mast 490cm base 22cm boom 227cm luff 511cm) but although I am rigging it with the correct NP the boom seems too short amking the sail way to powerful...
I borrowed form a mate the round tail end from an old NP boom (black 'n' yellow) and the sail rigs fine as the boom with that tail is about an inch and a bit longer...
The question is, do any of you have a spare old round shape boom tail end from a NP X9 boom? If so, I'm happy to buy it and put it to good use...
Cheers, Marty ![]()
Most decent booms I would hope are going to be fine on max, maybe not as stiff but stiff enough
I agree, plus is a carbon boom...
Drill another hole in the extension might work.
Take your sail to a sailmaker and trim the clew length by 20 cms. Done this with a Maui 7.6m and its new boom length of 200 cms it felt lighter in the hands.
Use a tape measure and check the length. I have come across masts not being their stated length, maybe same goes for booms?
Hi Marty pretty sure I have got a longer x9 tail buried somewhere in my shed will have a look in the am and let you know

He already said that
Seems NP don't own a tape measure.
I have successfully extended a boom end hen drilled a couple more holes so you gain a few cm but still have the same insertion depth.
Ive got an older X9. Needed extra holes. Imax1 kindly turned up a metal jig for me. Slide it on the extension drop the clip in n drill as many new holes as you wish.
Regarding the X9 measurement thing. If i set it to sail spec, it always ends up being about 2-4cm longer than needed. Its like this one they measured from front of boom clamp mast housing? My RSX measures up true.

Hey Mark,
when you drilled the new holes did you cap them somehow leaving enough indentation for the clip pins so the boom tail doesn't fill with water?

When your sticking a load of pre cut panels together it's quite easy to loose or gain a cm here or there. I doubt they measure them after assembly. We alway made them on the big side then measured and trimmed after.

Nah didn't bother as its only two holes that are always inside the boom, and only about 15cm of new section, so most of it still has the foam fill in it.
I guess I should really fill the new section with foam also
Hi Marty ,apologies I forgot I has previously cut it down, way to short for your needs
No worries mate, thanks for checking anyway.

True that, I think I'll give it a go...
