After reading needsalt's Prasonisi thread I wondered how many top locations there are worldwide.
I've only been windsurfing for 18 months and am familiar with only a few spots:
- Maui
- Spots in WA
- Dahab
- Cape Verde (A whole country I'd never even heard of before)
...that's about it.
If you won lottery tomorrow where would you go?
Have you been there? How was it?
Went to Maui back in July '06 and that was just awesome! Spent two weeks in windsurfing heaven.
Also windsurfed in Lake Garda in Italy in '05. Its a massive big lake in Northern Italy. During summer they get two different winds. In the morning, the wind blows down over the mountains from the North. Then at midday it dies out and all goes still. Its still for about an hour and then you can see a wind line coming up the lake from the south. Then all hell breaks lose and there are crazy Italian guys running around everywhere yelling, rigging and hitting the water. Its a massive lake and the wind can be pretty decent. Probably the most amazing thing was the number of windsurfers out on the water!!!! There are literally hundreds of people windsurfing (mostly German), its a pretty incredible sight and makes you realise the scale of windsurfing (even though its on a lake
) in Europe. No doubt there are hundreds of better spots to it, but the scenery while you are windsurfing is breathtaking. Its also cool to be able to go for dinner in a cool little Italian town after a session.
My two cents anyway.
If I won the lotto I'd get a round the world ticket, and stop at Maui, Brazil, the Carribean somewhere (when the Aussies were playing cricket), Ireland, Egypt, WA, then home. Dream on ![]()
I've been to the following places
Prasonisi great place see needsalt's post.
Also been to Feurteventura in the Canary Island
This is the link to the place I hired my gear from. Much better waves than Prasonisi, but didn't find the people as friendly and not as much to do if there is no wind. http://www.flagbeach.com/main.php
Maui twice- what can I say - GREAT place
Fiji - three times - Fantastic (but not as windy as Maui)
Lake Garda - beautiful scenery, wind good, but freezing cold water
English Channel at Brighton UK - really good wind (lived there for 2 years) but freezing cold and killer shorebreak at high tide.
WA - various trips - great place, friendly locals lots of wind (well there used to be!)
IF I WON THE LOTTERY - next place I would like to visit would be JERRY IN BRAZIL, looks like a great place. Also wouldn't mind visiting the Algave in Portugal, Caribbean or Ireland or New Zealand
So i have a week to kill in mauritius on my way home from africa in may, anyone been there before and have any beta?
read an email sometime ago that the windguru creator has been searching for hi-wind spots and finally came to a conclusion that somewhere in yemen i forgot where it was the ave. wind speed was 35kts. day in day out..he invited a couple of friends and ave. sails were 3.7
that'd be a nice place to go plus all the different kind of massages out there![]()
