Ran into this video on Youtube - Robby Naish - the gentleman and ambassador that he is - talks about how he got into kitesurfing from windsurfing to the point that he does either about 50/50 - which I didnt realise!! I totally agree with what he says about one can compliment the other - that it can be an extension of - this silly attitude that some adopt, that you are unfaithful or a traitor to one to even consider trying the other sport is bull****! I think both are unique extreme sports - centred around the wind, and if we see ourselves as compatriots in a similar sport rather than enemies, as some would have it; there would be a much healthier vibe out there. Watch it and make up your own mind!
Hey Dave
Are you sailing tonight? It looks like it is cranking on the north beach! Bower Road is the go tonight.

I think you'll find that Naish does bugger all kiting these days
(he was 50 50 about 3 years ago)
when i saw him in maui it was definitely all about windsurfing. Didnt see him anywhere near a kite the whole time.
Most proficient wave sailors i know that have tried kiting for more than 2 years find windsurfing by far the more rewarding experience - with the trade off that kiting is a quick easy buzz to pick up. Dont get me wrong - i still do both -and enjoy both - but i find kiting becomes quite limited in the surf.

Robby Naish is THE windsurf legend and has gone to kiting for the fun of it because it is good fun, and extends his business.. It is an extention of windsurfing in a sense that it gives another sensation while evolving on water using wind...
Naish's got his team riders to promote his kite brand and windsurfing being one of the sports that kiting was based on, his presence on the kiting scene seems respected, both by kiters and windsurfers.
