Hi,
I will be visiting a relative in Ellenbrook, WA, in mid Nov. Hoping to catch some wind while I'm there. Are there any windsurfing spots nearby and are there any equipment for rental around the area? What are the conditions like and what sort of equipment is suitable?

I'm from Singapore, where we hardly get much wind and the water's quite flat. Half the time we windsurfers are lounging on the beach instead. I have been windsurfing for about 2 years but still pretty much a beginner.
Would welcome any advice and tips.

Thanks!

There is no rental spots real close to ellenbrook but I would recomend trying Windforce in Nedlands or Secondwind in Applecross. Both do rentals but Windforce is closest and has all their rental gear on the beach at Pelican Point which is flat water and has a good grass rigging area.

Pelican Point is good in SE - W winds and has hire on the beach.

Lucky Bay is good in NW - S winds but you'd have to hire and transport gear yourself.

Pelican Point seems cool. I noticed on the map that the windsurfing area is actually enclosed. Are there like stuff I should look out for? i.e sea urchins (Boracays has them)

What will the weather & water conditions typically be like in mid nov?

It will be awesome, you will not want to go home. The only thing will be the drive from ellenbrook (40mins??) to Peli Point because if it is a good week it will be on every day

Pelican Point is great. The footing is fine, no sea urchins, you rig on grass maybe 15m from takeoff in the water, and very large areas are standing depth. Just don't sail in front of a ferry (channel is way out and there are markers).

Access is an easy distance from the freeway.

If the wind is northish, you have to sail out to get clean wind.

Note that the hire unit is not there 24/7; call them (Windforce or Pelican Point Windsurfing) to check when they will be there. The shop is maybe 2km away, and if you have transport you could arrange to hire from there.

Thanks guys for all the info!

I'm told that Swan River is pretty good too, probably easier conditions for me to handle.

Any information available on that?

Or can anyone provide somebody that I might be able to contact who can help me out when I'm there?? I'm arriving this sunday!!

Are you sure you're looking at the right map, this comment and your one about the swan raises some doubts.

Hi,

If your interested in a cheap rental I could sell you all my gear (just started kiting) for say $750 and you could sell it back to me for say $500 (minus anything you break)... when you go home: screamer 2 board, two neil pryde sails (5 and 6m) 2 booms, foot and carbon mast. all you would need is a harness...this is intermediate level gear (you would need to be able to waterstart)

let me know if you are interested

regards Tony

Hi Tony,

Unfortunately I can't waterstart so doubt I would be able to use your equipment.

However, how old is your 6m sail?
