Hi guys and girls,
I thought you might be interested in some info on the lakes of the Mackenzie Basin in New Zealand. Fantastic scenery, good chances of wind in the summer months. Read my blogpost here waternomads.co.nz/spotguide-canterbury-lakes-overview
Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions.
It's only a 3 hours flight from Sydney to Queenstown!

If it's as cold as it looks you won't find me in it.

It's not as cold as it looks, but it certainly is wetsuit territory. Air temperature is in the mid 20ies Celsius, water temperature depending what lake you sail on 18-22 degrees in summer. Can't compare it with Australian beaches or Maui in summer when it comes to temperature, but neither when it comes to the crowds .

That's Chatham Island. A looong way out! To be precise, 650km from the closest point of NZ mainland. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatham_Island
I'm always looking at it and thing it would be absolutely amazing for windsurfing. Less the lagoons (not sure how deep they are) but rather the countless beaches, facing any possible direction. Should be amazing wavesailing! If it weren't for the cold and it's got a reputation for BIG great whites. Flights not cheap, but would be an epic mission. Anyone keen? Im happy to organise it!
