Looking to take a holiday somewhere warm this winter, and hopefully do a bit of windsurfing as well. We (myself - intermediate level, and partner - beginner) have been trying to find out if Vanuatu would be a good place as it's a) near-ish and b) not Bali. However, despite e-mailing numerous hotels / resorts etc, all we can glean is that there might be some windsurf equipment about, but who owns it, whether it's for hire, what type of equipment it is etc remains a mystery.

So hopefully someone on here can give us some better advice. Can anyone shed some light on what's there, whether hire equipment is freely available etc. Or are there other places to go in winter that would fit the bill for a beginner & intermediate?

Many thanks for any help.

i've been

very little wind overall, anywhere, but you will do best where they do the kiting. i doubt there is any windsurfing hire anywhere

seems crazy that they get such little wind when newcal gets very good wind, and they are so close

can you go to newcal instead?

If you havent been to Maui yet do so - check out Vela windsufing holidays - they do packages for all the major wind spots around the world and will include accom / car / gear hire all in a single package.

Vela work with matt prichard in maui and Baja, mexico to do the wave courses.

I went to Santo, Vanuatu last year and borrowed some gear for a few days. Very good wind and a beautiful place to sail. I checked in to getting gear over there with Air Vanuatu. They have length restrictions of 2 metres on baggage. Your best bet is to go to Noumea, New Caledonia. Go to Anse Vata beach, there are quite a few hire places with the latest gear. They are having the PWA there in November this year.

Yeah best sailing is on in Santo, Efate (where Port Villa is) mostly has beginner boards and doesn't receive the wind, Id go for for New Cal (liek the guys are saying) after those last posts from Sean Hogan it looks the shizzale!

Not roar, but I did the course with Matt Pritchard at PSC in 2010. Totally took my wavesailing up a notch, best thing I could have done to progress.
