Has anyone done any windsurfing in or around Lorne. I'm off on a family holiday and wondering whether I should bother packing windsurf kit.

Would suggest that this is posted in the Victorian Forum.
As you know, Lorne is located in a deep bay, so protected from the prevailing southerly winds and the hills around the town protect it from the Northerlies. Would expect that easterlies may be the go.
You might have to go to Wye River (watch out for the beach break) or back towards Eastern View to sail in the southerlies.
There have to be a few more places to sail on this bit of coast....

the southern end off the beach is more exposed and gets good wind.

GP, you need to go down there (after the holidays) just to see the rocks that are in abundance. It is very limited, even for surfers. Cathedral Rock is a classic example.
Every time I have been on that road with kit on board and looking for a spot, I have ended up at Torquay.
So spots may work but much safer if there was a group to watch over each other.
