I'd like to spend a week or two windsurfing either mid 08 or 09. A few locations have interested me so far but I was wondering what Fiji was like? My interests at the moment are purely free ride sailing. I'd like to travel with out gear (board & rig) and hire there as the gear sounds pretty decent, from memory, JP boards and NP rigs, just not sure how old. The Extreme Sports Cafe sounds good in writing but was wanting anyone's opinion on the place, and Fiji of course. Cheers.
I am heading to Fiji for a week in late March. I saw the Extreme Sports Cafe site when I booked for me but got put off by the cheap look of the site and the lack of information...I guess i just found it too hard to wade through all the text on one page.
I booked at a place called Treasure Island, through Flight Centre. Flights, accomodation, all transfers and all food for 2 people for 7 nights was $3400. On top of that they have organised with the airline and the launch that gets us to the island to carry my gear over. So I will have my own gear.
I liked this option better, only draw back is that I might be sailing alone for the week.
If it's reliable wind and quality rental gear you want, then Maui's no. 1 in our winter, especially with the $ nudging US90c
My 2 bobs worth
I've been to both places, Nanu-I-Ra in Fiji, and the wind in Cocos was much better.
Size of sails in Nanu told the story, smallest was a one off 5.5m and the rest 6.0-8.0m ones. Boards used were 120-140l. But you could sail most of the day but watch out for the coral at low tide.
Night life in Nanu was nil as power went off at 10:30pm.
