Since I am going next month for a trip to Europe with few days stopover, I wonder if there is any chance to have a
glimpse of windsurfing in those places?
Abu Dhabi ?
If it looks like that or could be better ?

The reason for asking is my hotel reservation- that should be then close to the water.
Geneva ? If thare will be still freezing cold at their lake ? Any known spot ?
For the rest part of the Europe trip I had some knowledge and experience already.
One thing for sure, Geneva in May will be ok temperature wise, maybe not warm but certainly not freezing.
Peter,
I stayed a week near Lake Geneva a few years ago in early June. I didn't see any windsurfers, but on the other hand there wasn't much wind. If you have time, Lake Garda in northern Italy is the place to go.
Abu Dhabi ?
I'd be interested to hear anyone's feedback on Abu Dhabi, they are planning to have the 2015 Formula World Championships there... supposedly it's decently windy.
Been to Abu Dhabi a few times over the years for 4-6 days at a time. Have not seen much wind most of the times less than 10 knots.
One time a sand storm blew in from the northern gulf and stayed for a few days there was a little rain in it too meaning mud was basically falling from the sky.
From what I have heard the only spots with reliable strong wind on the arab peninsular are all in Oman.
Lake Genava will still be cold when compared to the ocean in Australia. The same goes for Lake Garda by the way.
Abu Dhabi could be ideal if only there is some wind around.
Every trip to Europe need some stop over, then instead of short few hours one , everybody could consider 2-3 days break to visit a place , do some shopping and wind / kite surf a bit.,
I am sure that Arab Sheikh knowing how attractive this location could be, could put few wind turbines ( revesed to produce wind) or jet engines along the water strip to tourist to enjoy constant wind![]()
still possibly cheaper then artificial ski field.
From what I have heard the only spots with reliable strong wind on the arab peninsular are all in Oman.
During one of my trips I visited Salalah in southern Oman in the middle of the monsoon season, wind was 20-25 all day everyday, dead onshore on the main town beach but further south there were some headlands and bays which could contain cross/on or better breaks.
If you really want a sail take a trip across to sharm el sheik in Egypt and visit dahab or many of the other windsurfing resort towns in the Sinai area.
Aquaba in Jordan was also windy with a little bit of hire gear available with the added bonus that you could always sail to Israel or Egypt if you wanted
when I went t lake garda there was no wind. ![]()
I hear their shark cull went very well though.

buhahahaha....
Windsurfing in Berlin is easy. Just short trip from centrum is big Wannsee lake and rental center. Water even not as cold as we could expect in early May.
Wind happen to be quite light but enough to sail and plane easy.
Next stop Geneva tomorrow.

If you can, take a trip to Toulon France, the water should be about 19 degrees celsius and if the Mistral blows, you can get really nice side on conditions at Six Fours Les Plages...spots La Coudouliere (home spot of Thomas Traversa) and Brutal Beach, or at Almanarre with smaller waves but can get pretty neat too. It's 500km from Geneva.
You really need a lot of luck to have wind at Lac Leman......sometimes you have this
but normally there is hardly any wind.Windsurfing in Geneva is simply spectacular! Crystal clear water, long run, wind expected to hit today 60-70 km/h.
Rental equipment at 29 frank an hour include brand new boards, range of sails and wetsuits. Just only missing boots could help to help handle 10 degree Celsius water.
Good NP wetsuits insulate completely .
Water condition not absolutely flat reminds me Melbourne bay.
Guys here have perfect conditions in local nautical club, could hire equipment or even storage their own at moderate fee for a year.
And I must say they are very skilled ,with gybing on waves here and free style tricks.
Next positive surprise when visiting Geneva ,all could use public transport for free including, buses, trams, trains and water taxis!
Unlike Germany which is much cheaper then Australia prices here are a bit steeper but again reflect the quality of the service which is excellent.
Windsurfing in Abu Dhabi could be hot and spectacular at same time. 45 Celsius air and only way to survive is shade or water.
Just short trip from airport is famous Yas Beach, site of the latest Ferrari F1 race track, gargantuan Water world and obviously windsurfing rental beach.
sailing along famous F1 race track on ultra smooth water could be improved by slightly stronger wind
or sailng towards fallen from the sky UFO saucer
???
suddenly I spotted something also rented to the bored customers on the beach
how's that speed strip off to the left of your track??? that looks pretty good.
Indeed flat conditions in Abu Dhabi looks like anything I saw before.
I strongly suggest next Windfeast we do right there ![]()
Shallow channels, dead flat surface, low sandy banks, unobstructed wind,
Wind regularly pickup around 4 pm even on windless day. With unlimited amount of waterways at all direction, any wind direction will work eventually.
Speed potential is unlimited under two conditions:
1.You carry your own equipment , not relay on rental - but Etihad airlines seems to be very friendly and didn't ask me a dollar for additional oversize baggage (in contrast to AirBerlin that asked me for EU$70 for 2 kilo additional pack on local Frankfurt to Berlin trip).
2. Observe wind guru and jump to Abu Dhabi before incoming "sand storm" as locals call strong wind.
What even more surprising - luxury palace like accommodation here is at the price of entry level motel here in Australia ( $150 per room for two !!)
That is how looks $150 accomodation
with beutifull beach and swimming pool
and that is what $300 give you !!??
