Hi everyone,

After 10ish years of break i went with Justin from windsurf religion
to Botany Bay on Thursday. It turned out to be a great session and now i determined to get back into it. I'm hooked again!

I am wondering if there are any windsurfers in potts point who have a bigger car or van who could take me along on windy weekends when you head to the airport. I'll be buying gear soon but do not want to buy a car as this would kill my finances - I've got a go get membership but its more fun to go together anyways :)

Cheers,
Alex

Seems not many people own cars in Potts Point.

Strange isn't it? Sailors that don't want to buy a vehicle, yet it's the first bit of equipment you have to get!

And a cheap car will cost you less than a board

We're mean old bastards on this forum aren't we all ? . I'm pretty sure he is asking for a ride, and not to be life coached.

Thanks Alex for doing the Sydney One Day Tour - Windsurfing Religion. I am glad you liked it. Check out the speeds from that day here, gpsteamchallenge.com.au/sailor_session/show?date=2014-11-06&team=49

I'm usually on race gear so it was really nice for me ride the wave / freeride gear. So light gybing!! That was a pretty good Alpha.

I was thinking about doing a German Day on Botany Bay. My wife has a friend at work who sails catamarans and windsurfs, she also wants to get back in after a break and my mate Jorn will come and I'll ask Phillip Koster (ex world wave champ). That's 5 people already! I am not german but thats OK, I can cook the german sausages.

What do you think? Good idea?

PS Phillip Koster may not be available

Hi Alex,

We're in Potts Point as well!
As we also don't own a car, we tend to just use gogets, strap the gear to to roof and go!

It's not as easy as having a van preloaded with gear, but it's not too bad once you get a system in place,

Matt

I was thinking about being the good Samaritan as I drive past yours each time I got to Botany Bay from Edgecliff.

I thought you could strap your gear on the roof as I have roof racks and my gear is usually inside the station wagon.
But then there is nowhere for you to sit inside the car; my gear takes up all the room except the driver's seat : \

And if I put mine on the roof then there is no space for yours on the roof. I think.
Usually 1 board, 1 mast, 1 boom, 2 sails - but what if I want to take the 2nd board, sail and mast just in case it is really blowing? Not sure I can fit 3 boards, 3 mast, 3+ sails, 2 booms on the roof and still make it through the tunnels.
But mainly I don't like leaving them on the roof of the car while I'm out sailing. Not in Sydney.

Let me see if I can't leave one seat in the back propped up and still fit all the gear. I'll let you know either way.
I usually go for 3 hours or so in total - about 2 hours on the water - quick blasts.

@ Justin:

It was a true pleasure - and your selection of gear was out of this world. Plus, the day was more than just very decent.

German surfing day? Done (Phillip Koster)!
... However... in Germany we never cook sausages but we grill them - I will show you ;)

@ matt_c

ah, so it is not an insane idea to use a goget - I'm glad to hear that. I noticed one goget with a roofrack in orwell street. Did you see any others? How long do you book them for?

@evlPanda

Amazing to hear that there are good Samaritans out there. I also got a PM from another person - I'm stoked by the friendliness! Let me message you once I have got the gear and then we can see whether it is all hassle free.

pm me your phone number and I'll text u when I'm heading to Botany for a weekend day trip. I'm in Balmain but it's not too much of a diversion. I have a van and there's usually a little bit of space left :)
