Can anyone tell me how wide a WOD is? Also how much do they cost new? I'm thinking of buying a couple of boards for lighter winds so me and the missus can go windsurfing together. How romantic! The only proviso is they have to fit side by side on the roof racks of my Delica van, that isn't very wide.

I looked at a JP Australiia SUP but the one with the centrefin is probably too wide to fit side by side. Just looking at the Bic Jungle. Any feedback on it?

I have the Bic Jungle wind. I'm pretty new to the sport so I can't tell you how it compares to much else. It paddles great and I've caught a few small waves on it but after I stuck a sail on it, I pretty much gave up on paddling/surfing it. Haven't had the chance to try sailing it in the surf yet but I plan to. I sail it with an 8.5 in <8mph winds. I like it but...

My biggest issue with it is the non retractable daggerboard. If you plan on using the daggerboard, DON'T GET IT. It's a PAIN IN THE ARSE to use that thing. It's fine when the daggerboard is down but if you want to raise it up you have to pull it out and put it somewhere. I've attached it to the back of my harness on a caribiner but then I damaged it. When you fall it's always in the way while you're getting back up. I've given up on the daggerboard so it's no longer a problem.

Local shop has a 2009 Exocet Kona Surf. It's very close to the Jungle size but a little narrower. It also has a retractable centerboard. Not sure why I still want a centerboard but if it was there I wouldn't mind it. I've been also eyeing the Starboard Serenity. It's very slim and seems like it would be great for where I'm at; I'm lucky if the wind's blowing 10mph here.

Edit:
Forgot to mention, I think the Jungle's discontinued now. It's no longer on the Bic site and the price dropped by $400 here. If that matters to you.

Good morning, Moby,

This link may help: www.windgenuity.com.au/?option=com_content&view=article&id=219%3Awindsurfer-one-design&catid=50%3Awod&Itemid=68

You might give them a call about width, etc.

Still got mine from 1985 in the back yard - 67cm.

Thanks for that. A combined width of just under 140 cms should be okay. So it will have to be a decision onto whether going for an old wally or plonking down a fair bit more cash on one or more SUPs that are good for windsurfing. Or perhaps a combo of old and new.

The Jungle looks good, like a real windsurfer but I wonder if it is any better at windsurfing than a wally. The non retractable daggerboard is a step backwards. Is the Jungle's centreboard fixed in a finbox or can you pull it out like the original windsurfer?

It's not fixed, you can pull it out like the original windsurfer.

26" exactly, the Aussie model follows the N.A. original norm.
Side-by-side: you can put the top one at an angle, it sorta works if needed, vaguely remember doing that long time ago.

Retractible is better, but the pull-up is very livable for light wind with the missus. The pull up allows to stack too.

Yeah, very romantic - am impressed. For some being romantic is trying not to pickup her sister...

I'm biased, but I have yet to find a SUP that can come close to a Wally in speed. The SUPs are too wide for longboard speed (the dynamics are different than in a shortboard) and have too much rocker. Well, by "too much" I mean too much for flat-water windsurfing, the SUPs are of course better for SUPing and waves.

As an indication, at the North Sails race in Melbourne at Christmas, a Wally won sailing 10 laps and the first SUPs did 7 laps. That was a reaching race, the One Design has a bigger advantage upwind.

With the flat deck and tough poly construction, you can also roof-rack Wallies on top of each other very easily. The best way I've found is to buy a soft rack and use that as the pad between the boards, but if you're not worried about minor scratching you don't need to use anything.

Price is about $1700 fully rigged.
