Hi I am looking for advice. I'm moving to Australia next month and will need a vehicle.
I'd like something that will fit my kit 235/100l and 3/4 sails and probably 4WD too as access to a couple of spots is too rough not to have it.
Not looking at spending more than 15k to start off with.
I used to have a troopy, but I would rather save more money for a newer one of those further down the line
Any ideas what would be a good reliable and low maintainance option?
Would and older Prado or Pajero be a better option than a newer soft roader?
Thanks, Tom
You've already had the perfect vehicle. Get another cheap, older 75 series troopy, 1HZ motor with no turbo. Slow as a wet week, cheap as chips to maintain and will almost go for ever. Hose out occasionally. Can be easily slept in overnight and all your gear will be locked up inside.
Toyota Land cruiser Troop Carrier.
I have 80 series. Same motor. 380 000k's and never put a spanner on it, other than service and oil change. I had a 60 series that had over
500 000k's and rust is what stopped it
Spacewise, there's nothing wrong with the delica. You just need to check if the fuel pump has been done to Aus standards.
Thanks for the ideas, had a look and I reckon I can get a 2010 pajero with just over 200k around my budget, they seem to have fairly few detractors.
I would like a delica but I have read too many bad stories.
The troopy will have to wait because I don't want a worse one than I had before, are the 4.5 V8 troopys worse than the 4.2 6 cylinder from a reliability point of view?

Longevity, reliability, maintenance, way more economical to run. You can't beat the 4.2 diesel.
I have converted my 80 series from full time 4wd to part time and free wheeling hub's. I think the Troopy's already are maybe.
This is more economical. I have also added a 2 Inch exhaust and extractors and snorkel. The trip down to Byron Bay from North Brisbane and back was exactly half a tank.
+1 1hz troopy here. 11-13 litres per 100km. But they are getting old. V8s use similar fuel , but have other reliability issues. A good 1hdfte (turbo) pre 2007 troopy will cost as much as a newer V8 model. Less rego n insurance to pay though.
I think if you look at a Pajero you'd be better off comparing it to a Toyota Prado. You should be able to get a 2009 (2003-2009) series 3.0 liter diesel Prado for about $20k depending on KM. I goes anywhere an 80series or Landcruiser will go but won't be a drag to drive around town. The 2003-2009 models apparently have more internal space then the post 2009 models. They seem to be very reliable cars.
