Ok, so we're looking for a place in the southern pacific ocean area where it is possible to:
1) Hire windsurf kit, and
2) Be (virtually) guaranteed sailing wind of let's say 15 - 25 knots (it can be any time of the year) for a period of about 10 days (trade winds?)
Failing that, only number 2) with the proviso that you can you can fly there with kit (that limits the airlines you can use) - one board, one mast, one boom, two sails. Or in the case of WA, fly there and take a hire van if you need to.
So, for WA - what time of the year and where?
Anyone been to New Caledonia? Any of the other islands for sailing?
North Queensland - what are the jellyfish issues?
Where else?
Done Fiji .in July - August .had great wind ,everyday ,you have to take your gear ,6.0 7.0 .if 95 kg.
plantation island .
cook islands .june -july .but may is the windiest .can hire gear there at muri lagoon .a lot more to do there than Fiji .but a smaller area to sail.
some lakes in QLD are good .I'll let them tell ya .a few of my friends go every oct- nov.
WA..can hire gear .can hire van .has wind everyday .can do more spots .
oct- mar.
i go in late nov.its the best.
Already booked for november ...Great wind ,I like north of Perth .( Denham)
you need a weed fin .safety bay is also a must .a great bunch of windsurfer there ,very friendly .
hope this helped ..
i do like the islands and visited many times .just the lugging of gear from place to place .can be a pain .
WA is just easy ,hire the van ,and just leave you gear in the van ,for the two weeks ,or how ever long you go for .November is the quite time there ,and there is always plenty accomadation .vans can get booked out in December January .so book well in advance .
WA hassel free always wind .aviod feb.bloody heat waves .cyclones .
tardy .
Not a fantasy at all, park your self at Green island in 'winter' and fair chance you will get 15-30knts 7/10 days, 25c water 25c-28c air temp, one board two sails, other islands in FNQ same but Green is the most realistic.
BYO 1 Board 2 Sails covers the range, plus some booties! fly QANTAS or Virgin and your done..Flights from Melbourne to Cairns often are cheap as.
Heaps of rest/bars etc in town, heaps of main land activities to do, mountain bike, wake board, rainforest etc etc etc.
Pretty hard to beat when it's like -40 and about to snow in Vic!
I'm planning a board meeting there sometime this winter!
I guess that Maui is too far north? That's a big exclusion.
Everything you want is pretty much a guarantee thru their summer months.
Any idea what site I can use to get wind stats for the past year?
thanks for all the suggestions, flights to Maui is cheaper than WA at the moment! Will have a look at all that was mentioned - anything on New Caledonia?
Thanks Tardy, great info on WA and the islands. Now where did I leave that bloody lotto ticket? I thought I put it in the shopping bag...

So far no 1 on our list for this year, thanks Jonesy.

Hey Zeeb..if money is a issue ,France is very expensive .
take a mate with you to WA split the cost in half .we hire a house between 4 -6 ,makes it cheap enough ,we stay all week.or weeks ..sail ,drink, BBQ .
Hi Zeeber, ask around, few guys on here have been over to New Cal.
Always better to have feedback from a tourist than from a local ![]()
akk I can say is that it's bloody windy, quite beautiful, friendly locals, hot chicks and good food !

^ Here's the stats for Arlington Reef which is pretty indicative for Green Island I would think, pretty much backs up Jonesy's suggestion.

PM or email me if you would like some FIJI information......thanks- happy to help out!

With Green Island I suggest that you book at the last minute as if there happens to be an east coast low at that time it shuts down the trade winds. The forecast on Seabreeze has been pretty accurate over the last few years. Just add about 4-5 knots to the Cairns reading.

Thanks Warren, but you're the reason we WON'T be going to Nananu again...
I did New Cal a few years ago at Xmas. Wind was good, it was hot and the water is very nice. There are a few rental places right on the the beach, Anse Vista. So I would walk out of my hotel room with boardies and harness on, walk across the road and rent some gear.
windsurfing is very popular, so you may get some good gear one day and slim pickings the next. I'd probably look at taking some gear if going again.
The killer is the price of food, very expensive to eat out.
get in touch with Sean, forum members and local windsurfer in new cal, he has all the info.

Not sure about those stats , are they over a 24hr period? It would be much windier and warmer if just looking at day light hours.
