I have quite a lot of Windsurf gear and a trailer. Up until a month ago it was all covered for theft and accidental damage by an RAA boating insurance policy. There was a $500 excess but it was good piece of mind in case a major problem occurred (theft / total loss of rig and board).
They changed their policy guidelines recently and they will no longer cover the gear. xI found "Guardian" will do it but only if I transfer car, wife's car and house with them, which is not possible as I have lease vehicles.
Does anyone know of an alternative?
I had the same problem with all insurance co's I rang as they called it boating and told me to ring a boating mob - who also declined as it is sporting goods according to them.
My only success was with SGIO who will cover it as specified portables - covered for anything unless it is in use. About $12K of WS gear doubles my contents insurance cost though!!!!
In recent thread re: a theft though it seems other companies do cover it under your normal house insurance, just in a very limited manner. So if was all pinched you'd maybe get a board and rig back
I have had success with my insurance company. They replaced my board under general contents for accidental damage. ?
Oh and with my insurance, specified portables won't cover damage to sporting goods while in use, and only up to 20% of the specified value.... why bother
Not that it will be relevant to many of you but my farm insurance policy with Elders covers my wife and daughter's horse riding gear and my windsurfing gear when it is on site, travelling to a location in Australia and whilst at a location in use off site.
Maybe worth ringing your household insurer and checking

Who are you with, and would they cover say $15K of gear all stolen from your car at one time? I would not think so ....... but let us now if they would as I would love to get my contents back to $35 instad of $80, the WS gear really jacks it up.
I am considering changing to HBF as they have my health insrance, and adding contents would be a good discount, but I need to present an argument about many other other insurers covering WS gear in the car or at the beach on a normal contents policy......... like OldSalty's one with Elders
I'd like my gear ensured from theft when it's in my car. What's the best way to do that? Household insurance?

Mm think our farm insurance is with Elders so will have to check for windsurfing cover.
