Lord Howe from this forum has organised a windsurfing fortnight at Lord Howe Island.

He ran a similar event last year and by all accounts it was great. Hopefully next year I will go there.

Hi Antman, yep the Lord Howe Winter Windsurf Trip 09 is happening between the 1-14 Aug.
There are 17 'mainlanders' coming over. Last years trip we had fantastic wind. August is the best time to sail on Lord Howe. We get very consistent winds over winter. The sailing is done in the lagoon and out by the reef. I'm sure you will find plenty of other comments and reports if you do a search of the forum over the past year. From around October this year there will be a NP/JP hire facility on the island.
pm me if you would like any more specific info.
Thanks Moby for suggestion & would love to have you on the island one day!

antman,
tims obviously booked out but Leanda Lei are just down the hill and would probably have a bargain if you google em and negotiate a little. Lovely people there and just up the road from the lagoon and launch spot.
thats if you can get a flight on qantas, or if you are really game the Macquarie air service will fly u over from port macquarie for a similar rate, and they had a package for your gear as well which goes on a separate fruit and veg freight plane. if its blowing westerly when you fly out of port mac, it knocks a half hour off the 2 hour flight. but its real indiana jones stuff i must say. thrilling to say the least but it gets you there.
at this time of year the resorts in general are negotiable, and if you would like to be closer to the lagoon and avoid the "hill", then "Pinetrees resort" is neat and has some good food and an open fire, a top spot. here are a couple of images of when we went in sept last year on the next moon after tims team went over and its maybe wise to consider the moon phase when booking and time it for waxing moon.

Windanza, those photos look great!

Please tell me it's not like Fiji and has a lot of exposed coral at low tide. It does look like a great place to sail though. I think I am happy to trade off the lying around in a hammock for some decent wind.

Oh well, another 2 weeks or so, and I'll be there! Woo hoo!

who else kev, we'll have to stop meeting like this.
go bluedog go well blue dog he he
just romance it and say a few hails as you take off.
we took off at port and the door sprung open at 500ft scaring the mo off that trady on the right there near the door but the wind kept the door from opening tooooomuch, no worries, circled round in the 40kn west gale bumpity boo, landed again taxied along the runway, and indiana just reached over and slammed the door shut properly this time [no air or light shining through the rim] and took off again, ho hum. meanwhile the passengers were ashen white and gritting with richtous grin of frozen fear, especially my partner who had never flown in a smaller 2 engine cessna before. but all was sweet and the master pilot smoothed us over to lhi and landed without waking the baby so to speak, and he [indiana] managed a couple of catnaps on the way over too as it gets kinda drowsy. go blue dog.[}:)]

not like fiji, its nippy at this time of year although with LHI it seems the 20/20 temp and water is pretty constant all year because of geo pozzy in the middle of tassy sea.
only at the very lowest of lows does coral come above waterline, and usually the low tides leave enough water over the c heads to clear the fin. although if you have a weight problem and ride too heavy on the back foot as well then that could be a different story. Meaning step up front and look like you mean it brothers and sisters and balance off your front foot more and really get the ya yas off.
seriously though not like fiji at all, no somnam kava stuff only redneck wonderland to pluck the heart strings of the true blue believers.

Haven't flown with Indiana, but caught up with him in the LHI pub last year. Swapped a few aeroplane yarns over a couple of beers. Sounds like you had one of the less eventful trips Windanza. You'll be right Bluedog, and you'll get there on schedule. That day last year, so windy the Quantas plane did a few fly overs before giving it a miss and going home - Wasn't a problem for Indiana, been and gone already.

Yes the coral's lower than at Fiji, only an issue at the lowest tides.

go easy Ian, our flight was eventful enough thank you very much. and blue dog might see red and have to pack some extra nappies if we wax this up too much.
indiana certainly can fly a plane well and apparently can land sideways if wind is too strong from the wrong direction without spilling the froth off the beer.
and yes we are going qantas this time and are more concerned about whether its a repeat performance for the dash 8 and have to waste days and nights in sydney waiting while everyone is sailing their butts off on island. are you going i think i saw your name in the checklist tim sent around.?

might i add, 'indiana' windsurfs as well! all of you coming over with macquarie air never fear, they're all excellent pilots who know that strip like the back of their flying goggles.
They will be transporting about 140 kg of spanking new gear from Windsurf n Snow (thanks Sam) over the next few runs.
Just got back from NYC and returning to the island 25/7, hangin' to get back on the water.
can't wait to see all you cats on or around 1/8. windanza, don't worry your accomm is reserved and will be ready and waiting.
