The next meet for the WindWanderers will see a Starboard sponsored Women in Windsurfing day held at Sutton's Beach, Redcliffe.

As the name suggests the day will be all about the girls. We selected Sutton's for the meet as it is half way for those on the gold and sunshine coasts and also has some great facilities for the kids of the mums.

It's exciting news for the meet and the club that Starboard have come onboard as a new sponsor. Starboard has been a long time supporter of women in windsurfing and were very keen to continue this by helping the WindWanderers organise a meet for women that windsurf.

for the day we have planned,

1. Starboard sponsored bbq
2. Starboard lucky draw for the girls only!
3. Man-Caddies (to rig and derig for the girls)
4. Child minding (for the mums with kids)
5. Beginners gear and lessons for the girls that are keen. (send an email to let me know).

The meet will be held in 2-3weeks towards the end of November and as usual will occur on a saturday with a tastey forecast. Sutton's beach is an amazing spot to sail offering classic bump and jump/small wave conditions. for the beginner / intermediates, hitting the water early before the wind picks up will offer some great opportunites. for more details check out the locations guide on the wanderers website. http://www.windwanderers.com/Locations.html

Childminding is something new we are trying so i am looking for an indication of numbers from those keen to join in. at this stage the club will cover the costs depending on numbers?. just drop me an email to confirm so i can include everyone on the list. i will also be putting together a pass the parcel for the kids. (windsurfing orientated of course).

also i am looking for some extra man caddies to help out on the day. email me to let me know if you are interested.

It will be great to see all the girls out enjoying the sport. Hopefully this is an excellent opportunity for all of the women in the club and all of the wives/girlfriends/sisters/daughters that windsurf but "occasionally" get left behind. Lets provide an opportunity for them to hit the water and have some real fun too.

hope to see everyone there.

happy winds.

Justin.

Gestalt,

I know I'm not a windsurfer >admittedly I have never tried< however, being a girls day I would love to come and watch the girls sail! Let me know the date and I'd love to come or help out with anything.

The 17th and 18th is out for me with the SurfConnect demo day and other plans, however the next weekend I should be free if it is then.

If you need a hand with anyone to help look after kids, I'd be happy to help. Going onto 4th Primary Ed next year, and have blue card etc if you are interested.

Cheers mate.

Do man caddies get a nice uniform or do they have to wear budgey smugglers and speak in a foreign accent.

Justin sounds like a great day you have planned, do you have exact date yet? as we are going away for a week to Burrum Heads so may not be around. Would hate to miss out on this one.
I will be around on sat 17 November but not the following weekend (24/25).

Great idea Justin to get more ladies and kids involved. Suttons is a top spot but I think only currently sailing women will want to sail there. If that is the idea then perfect venue. Otherwise an easier learning venue would be just down the road at Woody Point near the old jetty...lots of kids stuff and BBQs toilets plus a pub across the road. Water depth is minimal for quite a way so is good for learners / kids. If you wanted a whole day meet we could do Woody Pt AM and Suttons PM...keep everyone happy. Only issue could be if the sailing club has something big on.

I am keen to try woody point. sounds good. only 10min down the road from sutton's beach too.

I think that pelican park would be a better location though. woody point near the jetty is rocky. the other thing is that both of those locations don't work in northerlies or Nor-easters. what does everyone think?

also if anyone is looking for lessons or beginners gear surfconnect have offered me the use of their learners kit for the day. if anyone wants to take advantage of this just drop me a line. it will al be free.

the date will be around the end of novemeber, maybe even the last weekend in november. i pushed it back a little to allow more people to attend.

cheers
jb.

I've sailed at Woody. The rocks are bad, particularly on a low tide, as it's quite shallow.

Drove past there last week...did you know that the jetty's gone !!

Pelican Park may be better....don't know about playground's there though.

Pelican Park would be the better option down that end but only if wind is from southerly directions and all locations, High Tide is best. Suttons is full of rocks also at low tide

Break out your speed-gear girls.....you appear to have scored the windiest Windwanderers meet yet. Don't forget your impact/weight vests also. Should be able to see who is the fastest woman in Qld!

looking towards the saturday on Dec 1st for the meet.

the longrange forecast shows SE's prob 15-20 knots. tide will also be high for the afternoon.

at this stage we will attempt pelican park but will be open to any of the other redcliffe venues as they are all within 10 minutes of each other.

i'll confirm closer to the date whern the forecasts are more accurate. hope the date is good for all.

cheers

hi club309,

glad to see you both are enjoying the sport. lessons were a great idea and simon and julie have a load of experience. simon and julie are also supporters of the club sponsoring a previous meet at wello

yep, the meet is definatley happening.

although the club is serious and all of our meets are fun, social and non-competitive days. we go sailing, have some giveaways and hold a bbq. All provided by the club's sponsors. (sometimes the bbq runs all afternoon). there is no real time frame involved other than a start time of 1pm. we just go with the flow and see what everyone wants to do. For the womens day starboard are the sponsor, starboard have supported women in windsurfing for a long time and were really keen to help the club out.

the clubs website is www.windwanderers.com

definately come along on the day and see what you both think. we get together every 5-6 weeks typically at different locations. no matter what your ability you can join in. the members consist of people from beginners to advanced tricksters covering all ages. We all get out on the water at the same time and enjoy it.

each meeting we try and do something different, this meet is for the girls that enjoy the sport, (although all us blokes will be there too). the next meet will be our xmas party and so on. The venues we choose are also typically places that everyone can get out on the water and we try and choose a different location as much as possible to keep everyone entertained.

Also surfconnect have leant me some gear for the day so i will also be bringing a beginners setup that can be used. Arriving before lunch would be better so the wind is not too strong. there will be plenty of capable people to give you tips and i myself have taught before so i will help you out if you come.

cheers
Justin.
