Hi Boys,

I have really been enjoying the last two months without wind, as I am no longer a Wind Widow.

Hmmm any ideas on what I can get my fella to do around the house next

Get him to build a storage room for all his new toys he will get when you go to work your second job to pay for them.

He may have to retire from work so as to be fully utilize these new toys.

You could also just get him to pick up the 6 months of accumulated dog crap out in the back yard

Laptop with wireless connection does the trick.
Pick up a second hand one for $20. Don't want to waste too much money.

In regards to activities, why not learn how to dance? My wife and I did it last year and it was quite fun. At least I know a few steps and enjoy putting together a few moves to different styles of music.

Other than that learn multiplayer computer games or get a Nintendo Wii.

You could get him to sit down with you and watch windsurfing instructional videos with you and go over the finer points of learning to windsurf so when summer comes you'll be ready to hit the wind and water with him.

Any tips on actually getting the missus to windsurf?
Mine will only give it a go during warm months and hates the constant talking about this great sport.

Dizzy - propose a deal to him, he helps out when its not windy, you try windsurfing and he's allowed out when windy (at no punishment). Everyone happy?

Dism it takes a special kind of women to windsurf. If she's worried about her hair getting messed up or breaking a nail you've got no hope. How ever if she's an out doory type then you may have a chance. The hardest part is getting them to the level of plaining.Once anyone reaches that point in windsurfing they are hooked.Encourage them. But don't let them give up.Oh yes there will be tears and tantrums .Thats why it's better to get a friend or a professional intructor to teach the GF/wife.Thats rule number one.

You're a brave, brave woman Dizzy coming here to ask a question like that.

It's funny, my wife prefers to be a windsurfing widow rather than having me grumpy and hanging around due to lack of wind. Must say something about our relationship.

She's not worried about most of that stupid girly stuff (hair/nails), but she hates the cold, so cold water and windchill are enemies. And suggesting a wettie has been rejected I think (apparently they aren't trendy or something).

She's getting it (chicks have great balance hey) and doesn't mind when shes going fast (she hasn't really hit the plane yet). So hope yet

She's probably aware of your rubber fetish dism, and as you're a macho windsurfer she probably doesn't want to overstimulate you.

Mine was never interested, despite being a full-on sailor (she did the Olympic Tornado worlds, in the ocean off Sydney, 18 months after her first sail) until she got into longboards and racing. She used to see the Kurnell shortboard crew out there, but just couldn't see the point in going back and forth......going nowhere just seemed a bit pointless, she says.

While not that many women want to race, AFAIK a lot of other women also share her lack of interest in just reaching back and forth in big breeze and worrying about gear. Maybe you could try getting more involved in sailing during the warmer months and trying some more cruising-style sailing on simple gear? A few weeks ago, during the Sydney wind drought, we had a great couple of days sailing out to some of the Sydney harbour islands while most boards were sitting on the roofracks.

On the downside, her boards and gear are now competing for space with mine......

Thats the thing my GF windsurfs too ...so double the gear.Although we do get away with one set of sails due to our wieght difference. She is not so into the techi side of things.Wouldn't have a clue. But she does get rather flattered when one of the pro's asks her what size sail she's using
Her mission at the moment is to get a duck jybe.
It is hard to get her out in the winter fronts. She had a big walk at crazy"s last year lolMore of a summer sailor i guess but thats ok..
When she was learning there where lots of tears and "i'm not doing this stupid f@$$@ing sport anymore" But then an hour later she was back out there..with encouragment of course.
Male or female i guess it just takes an "i won't let this beat me " attitude to learn it...

Me missus stopped windsurfing after having kids.

The family compromise was good: got an old 27' sailboat, that I drag a board onto. Sail for couple of hours, she participates, we drop anchor. Me mongrel and I go windsurfing, she reads a book and drinks wine. I come back, she's toast, I sail back home. (Interestingly, she does the kitchen in the boat!!)

Wind too strong and I go windsurfing all alone.

The expense is a few days of the year where I have to do boat maintenance and the value of a sailboat that should keep up. Everybody wins, and I get to choose my windsurfing spots, some of which I couldn't drive to.

Other than that, just not convinced that anyone should wanna get the missus windsurfing...
