I like wide booms and narrow booms touch the sail. What's the theory behind narrow wave booms?

Wave sails don't have that deep shape like race sails so they don't touch the boom on narrow booms, hence can get away with smaller/narrower booms?

Admittedly, my wave sails are slightly touching but that's no different to race sails.

I think narrow booms would be stronger in the surf.

I think many wave sails are designed with the support of the boom in mind.

In addition to the obvious draft thing already mentioned......
Body closer to it means finer control for funky moves

More above the board yes. Though baggy sail can be a nice powerhouse with strong current and little runway to the breaking section.
Sporting a lot of boom wear in my sails :)

When you're slamming a sick bottom turn you don't want the fat wide-ass boom dragn', grabn' and catapultn' ya into the pits of hell.
