Hi,
I am currently sailing a 150-210 simmerstyle blackline 2018 model, but i dont really fancy the tapered tubes (25 mm for front hand and fat (28mm?) for back hand). I got this boom as a replacement for the 150-210 simmerstyle blackline 2017 which i snapped after af few rides...
Before the 2017 boom i snapped a simmerstyle blackline 140-190 after two seasons of use.
Not very lucky with the simmerstyle booms ![]()

I am therefore considering buying an AL360 slim boom after i tried one at pozowinds and really liked it!
But... I am in doubt whether to go for the 140-190 or 150-200. I sail in waves.
My smallest sail 4.0 needs 151 for the boom. If i upgrade my 4.0 to the new model it would need 148 for the boom. I mostly use my simmerstyle blacktip 5.0 which needs 168 cm, but i also have a 5.8 (184) that I rearly use. I am considering replacing it with a 5.6 blacktip with a boom of 173 or 5.9 icon with a boom of 180.
I consider the 150-200 for durability reasons as it would be less extended. I really dont want to break another boom again.
What do you guys think?
PS. I am 92 Kg
It would depend on where your booms snapped, if you are really concerned about extension.
But boom strength isn't really defined around the assumption that you are using minimal extension.
Snapped my first carbon boom 40 cm behind the harness lines. The simmerstyle blackline carbon snapped 20 cm behind the harness lines at 20 cm extension using a 5.0 sail.
Anyone got any experiences using a AL360 boom at fairly large extension regarding flex/feel?
Get a Severne Enigma Wave 150-200. Best boom I have ever owned. Awesome reduced diameter grip and stays stiff for a long time.
Same goes for the NeilPryde X9 140-190. Rock solid and replacement parts still avaliable for older models.
For me the Blackline is the only one that really lasts.
Never seen one broken, so I hope its not a problem with 2018 ones.....
Anyway I reckon go the 150, but you don't have that choice in AL360
Maybe you can repair it?
I repaired a Billows carbon boom which was toast. Stronger than new now.
If you're interested I can run you through the technique. P .M. Me.
