Hey:

Up here in the far north we are experiencing a somewhat unusual winter. Usually @ this time we are freezing our butts off and/or buried under a pile of snow. This year the snow started later than usual (and then dumped 3 feet in one week here and in 3 days on the East Coast). However, this allowed the lakes and rivers to freeze over solid with NO snow - which made for a great start for me to windsurf on my homemade sled with windsurf sails. After the snow settled, we had unusually warm weather which either made hard crusty snow or more great ice. This winter I have been out on the ice n snow in great conditions 16 times !!

Yesterday was my BEST winter session on ice n snow ever and I tried to capture this as best as I could with 2 video cameras :-)

Hope ya LIKE IT !!

Hey Joe, great to see you out and enjoying it. Video is amazing. However, in my mind I did picture sailing on the ice being a bit faster!!!!!

it is kinda difficult to capture the speed and I ALWAYS forget to measure it = safety above ALL
I have gone on a river beside the bridge and was going faster that the cars in a 60 kph zone
hopefully this one captures the speed a little better for you
and I am NOT doing this for the speed lolol

in the first video I am using a 5-oh in 20-40kph winds
and in the next one a 4.6 in 20-30kph winds
more efficient than a foil ??

does RumChaser have his head in the toilet?
again ?? lolol

Yep, that shows a bit more speed.
That is Sebastion the cat. He can be a bit naughty and I managed to catch him at it with the camera. His water bowl would of been no more than 10 feet away.

Good vid Joe.
16 sessions is great.

I saw this one on instagram of a guy going fast (too fast) on ice.

Antoine Albeau has managed to go almost 100kph on water
iceboats and windsurfers on ice have definitely gone 100kph
it's scary fast !! I feel I have gone 70 and that's fast enough for me
in the past I have broken a shoulder and banged my knees, wrists, etc
buddy cracked a rib and now wear's a hockey goalie chest pad !!
it's fun to go fast ... until it hurts !!!

gotta have "black ice" and skateboard type board for the BEST results !!
I have a skateboard type board, but need perfect ice and not too much wind lol
(I sail on the ice mostly on a small lake - no point in going too fast - have ended up in ppl's back yard :-)

We stayed next door to Dean at OBX Wind (iirc). Super nice guy and no slouch on water, either.

Hi Joe, can you steer that wind-ski contraption? Does it respond to rig steering?

on those ice sleds you steer like a skateboard
my sled is skis and requires giant arches and thus I do 1/2 tacks n jibes and move the rest manually
heard somewhere that is a "German Jibe" = go to end , get off n turn around lol

yesterday I was out in 15-22kph S winds and managed 29kph with a SW Hucker 6.6

on water I do NOT go out unless 20-30kph and then use longboard or my JP SPW 92 with 9-10 meter free-race sails !!

Cool video Joe. I'm surprised he isn't wearing motorcycle back and neck protector (at those speeds). Does the ice ever rag doll you ?, or do you always just slide ?
