Hello,

I'm planing to build a windsurf trailer and there is one variable I can't pin down.

Can someone tell me what is the maximum possible width of commercially available booms?
Is it always the same or does it depend on the length?

Thanks

Nup!!!! wave booms seem to be narrower, older booms seem to be wider. Since some sails started controlling draft movement with the batten resting on the boom, some booms are narrower. When they thought booms shouldn't restrict sail draft booms were wider. And yes width does depend on design length.
So I think if you allow 10-12% draft to width ratio for sails you should have a rough idea.
ie a 200cm boom would be about 20cm X 2 wide perhaps.

Booms are just a pain to store. I've tried hanging, shelves and a draw. All have positive and negative points. Post a pic when you've worked it out.

For big sails my NP 225 to 265 boom is 60cm wide on min ext .
And its cut down to 215. I need it for NP V8s and EVOs 8m and bigger.

I have a 2016 Chinook 160-226 monocoque slalom boom. Largest width is 525mm. I brought this boom as it was the widest boom on the market. Hope that helps.

This really helps! Thank you!

Judging by your boom being the widest one on the market at that time.
And having 650mm of width for boom storage available in my current layout, I guess that should be fine for any reasonable booms I might buy in the future.

That's a lot of width! You think that a 12m^2 sail boom will be even wider?
Currently I have 65cm of width available for booms.

I'm not sure , I've never had a bigger boom . Mine would hold a 10 m
I would think a bigger boom would be wider .
Unless your thinking Formula , you won't want bigger than 9.5

65cm should be OK. I have two booms.

A Duotone EPX Carbon 175-225 which is 57cm at its widest point which I use with my slalom sails from 5.7 to 7.7

A NP X9 Carbon 160-210 which is 47cm at its widest point which I use with my 6.0 bump and jump and 7.0 foil glide.
