My sdm mast has a measured inner diameter of 48.5mm. I have a old ('80s maybe) thinner mast which measures 46mm. Is this a rdm mast? Were there any other standards for masts in the past?
Thanks guys for the quick replies.
Therefore this 46mm mast must be some freak dinosour '80s standard. Oh well...
windsurfer one design masts were always around 46mm as well as white hifly's and early purple rotho's and yellow sportex masts but some may have been black or even clear. (sexy)
obsolete now as they feel like sailing with a piece of bamboo. (boing, backslam)
unless you like that kinda thing?
Spot on greenleader, windsurfer one design masts are a bit narrower than a sdm. This means that it is next to impossible to find an extension to fit them!! Skinny extensions are way too small and standard extensions are a couple of mm too big
. Not that I actually ever use a one design mast!!
Originally masts must have been 46mm I/S Dia & then changed to 48mm I/S dia.
For that reason Tyronsea had to introduce a spacer and we also modified the bottom of our mast extension to accept later model stubby bases.
Therefore Tyronsea will fit both old & new masts & bases.http://www.hydrodynamix.com/tyronsea.html
RDMs are about 32 -33mm I/S dia.
