The best sailboard I have ever sailed was the Mistral Diamond Head. It worked well with a 32cm plus trapezoid fin and 5-6m sails. Came out in the 85/86 Season and was Robbie Naish's Slalom board. Superb!

For me it's the 2007 Naish Hybrids - 110l and 90litre. Super short (210cm), cover all my needs in most conditions. I'm even thinking of turning one of my 110s into a foil board.

I too loved the Hybrids... the 90L was my fav. Loved the Hypersonics too... easy to plane, gybe and pointed so high.
The one you are on the next time you sail, when it's windy and you have a great big smile on your face!
The one that makes you happy, whether it's a HiFly 333 or the latest foiler or anything in between.
One of the great things about windsurfing is its diversity, so there are so many facets that there can never be a "best board".

Hands down all time favorite of any Millennium, decade, Tardis experience in other worlds ,any artificially induced out of body experience, IS
my Red October, a converted highly modified NAISH , into the most awesome, bitchin Quad ever made, sailed or gazed upon.
For most people it should be the one they first got planing on, the one that gave them that first initial buzz about the sport.
That unfortunately for me was a Klepper 320.

I just got a brand new 90l hybrid last year. They are ridiculously fun to sail... Till you drop off the plane
The very First F2 sunset slalom - came out around 1985 and was totally sick. Graphics were sweet as and weight was around 7.5kg - very good for the time. Teamed up with a 6.2 Gaastra slalom foil cambered sail that you could also duck jibe, jump jibe and carve 360s on was a glimpse of the future. Mistral Hookipa around 1986 was good too - i never owned one but they were quick too.
The best doesn't exist but favourite does. My favourite board was the Warren Thompson 8' 6" single fin custom polyester glass wave pintail from 1986 purchased from Santosha/Star in Cottesloe with Pro Speed finish. Superb control and handling in mast high Margaret River and great sailing in general wave sailing conditions. Nostalgia and the joy of youth.. yes surely... but a great piece of gear and a great shaper who still shapes great surfboards today in Denmark WA and has been doing so since 1967. Worked well with 1986 Gaastra Wave 4 full length (one was convertible into a short batten) batten 5.2m2 and 4.6m2 RAF style sails, with metallic looking gold foil batten pockets, on a Kilwell mast with standard Hydrodynamix boom using Tyronsea base. Nothing was perfect but nothing beats nostalgia.

Maybe being nostalgic. But I'd say it would be the mistral screamer I had about 20 years ago. Mainly because I only had the one board at the time and it seemed to work in all conditions.
Now I have 5 boards and thinking I could use another to cover my bases. :)

Yep, 1985. Not quite as quick as the earlier Sunset in a straight line, but as you say it turned very nicely.

Just picked up a Mistral Screamer 2 from 2005 - I can see the Mistral Diamond Head pedigree in that fine board.
That is the Screamer 2 of 1996 did not know it was from 2005. Would be interested to see a photo. Not sure the 1996 model shows Diamond Head pedigree but it is a good board but with the "no nose" influence of the time. The 1989-1995 Screamers show more influence from the Diamond Head since they are Harold Iggy/Naish shapes and likely with help from Australia's Bruce Wylie too.

Heavy glass job and wind hungry..
everything was heavy then, masts, booms and soft sails
with wind it went great and surfed (nothing like now but then getting out back and a few turns was enough ??)
We'd watch Trade Winds, see a leaf move and rig up....
I`d have to agree with the Bombora Zot. We had one when I was a grom, and I remember it getting blown off the car roof and rolling over a hundred times in the carpark on a windy day. Picked it up, no damage to the board but I think it dented the road! Now that`s a board!
Tiga 275 and 260 acr plus 260 bump and jump.Yes they were plastic but had a fantastic soft deck grip. Still pretty fast and relatively tough
Sputnik 275. Sailed it with everything from a 7.9 down to a 4.5 on Tarifa's speed strip. Absolutely, hands down, the best and fastest do everything board that I fortunately still own. Next best is my Mistral SLE272. The only board from Mistral I ever liked.
