What can we expect at Merimbula in April as far as wind, daytime temps and sailing conditions are concerned? Worth driving 7 hours for, or if not, where would you go sailing in April from Melbourne? Looking for flattish water, warmer temperatures than Melbourne and anything between 16-24 knots.
We usually do a Merimbula trip every April and have a ball but we never book anything as we wait for a good forecast.
It's a nice time of year the crowds have gone water is still warm but there is no pattern to the weather you can have 3 days NE wind in a 2mm and then a cold 30 knot southerly when you need a 3/2. The bay is rarely flat but usually smaller at one end. You can sail anything from NNE to W somewhere on the bay. Also we have a great time because we take everything Mountain bikes (Tathra Mtb park is awesome), SUP , surf, kite ,wing and my wife's windsurf gear. If you are just going for windsurfing flat water then it will be limited unless you strike it lucky.
it's also lonely down there I'm usually winging and kiting alone maybe one or max two people if it's good.
Thats awesome feedback, thanks. Happy to be sailing where its less crowded! We don't have the option of waiting for a good forecast, will just have to see if we get lucky.
