That's a first! I should head over there next year & check the windsurfing out .l heard its a awesome place to sail not much happening here in OZ (east coast ).slalom&speed attic. ![]()
slalom and long distance probably
Was wondering,...
We're a tiny island with just over 300 000 inhabitants, how come a country like Oz can't come up with a similar event ?
Could be the opportunity to have one at the same period with all the pros in the southern hemisphere and 2 hours away from the east coast !!
Not being a smart arse, just thinking it would be great ! ![]()
Dates ?
official signature in December, will post as soon as I know the exact dates
WA could probably pull something off .
Dates in Noumea ??
It'd have to be something like PWA West Coast Grand Slam @ Lancelin or Geraldton surely? ![]()
I think south Leighton fremantle had the world championship back in '98.surprising l think perth could pull off a P.W.A event we definitely get strong seebreezes.

Actually it was the ISAF World Windsurfing Championships in Dec 97 at South Freo which is not quite the same as PWA in that there were a number of different windsurfing classes (not surprisingly, 'Tony Elbow' won many races in his class!). There was also a PWA slalom event held at Scarborough Beach a number of years before this. Was a real spectacle watching rough water slalom racing in 25-30 knots (I remember sailing well powered on a 4.2 just north of Scarbs at Mettams Pool after watching some of the racing from the beach whilst many of the top sailors were using 6.0's!).
PWA in November 2014 in Noumea !!!!!!!!!!

I think we just have too many sports here so sponsorship is spread too weakly across too many things. That and we probably don't have enough motivated people to make it happen. Would be radical though ... nobody likes sailing in Europe in 5mm wetsuits. uurgghh
