This clip represent 4 years and 3 months of total addiction to windsurfing. From a wobbling learner falling in constantly on massive boards and small sails, to eventually progression to a smaller (111 litre) board. Then fiiiiiinally getting some feel for seemingly tiny sub 100 litre boards in decent winds. Been a long and painful road- broke bones, split head, seen too many sharks, driven hours for wind and failed, came in gutted after arse kickings in 30 knots- but stuck it out and now buzzing big time at starting to sail half decent.

Still miles to go, but I see the light and reckon it's possible to kick a little butt as the hair thins and I edge closer to 50

Nice planing exits there Phil and the conditions look great (doesn't look very choppy there ?). Interesting camera position. I've never been game enough to put a camera there in fear of ripping off the deck and losing the camera. How did you attach camera to board ?

Jn1, it gets pretty choppy out beyond the point, open ocean, but is quite smooth on the runs back in. The Gopro is attached to the board with board mount and leash plug- kinda like what's in this pic. I don't trust the adhesive they use so glued them on with epoxy. I guess one day the mast will smash it, but I like the view, something different.

Cheers Mark, if only I could sail half as good as you. Thanks for the lessons all those years ago. And getting closer with the sup funds...

That's a sweet gybe Phil. I've been sailing 30 years on and off and can't pull off a carving gybe anything like that. Well done!

Sailing location looks great too. I stayed there once years ago and thought it looked good for a NE'er. We usually head north in the April school holidays, what's the chance for good wind at that time of the year up there?

Thanks Harrow.

Trial Bay is certainly sweet in a nor-easter, but sadly April is pretty unreliable for them. But you never know, last May we had some rippers. I guess just keep an eye of the forecast, you may snag a nice breeze or two.

We had a 15 knot NE in Sydney last week - can't remember if it was the same day.

Now you have to try regular or sail SUP so you can go through similar frustration & progression.

How is the stand up popularity at SWR.

Hey Tomp. May have been the same day. Sadly perhaps the last for the season...

Yeah, all keen on the the sup idea. Just organizing some funds to get a JP of Mark Jordan at Port Macquarie. Had a few goes now and yep, wobbling like a learner again..

Sup crew is growing here. Never seen any a few years back. Over Easter there was 15 out daily. One enthusiastic holiday maker said to me, "This has to be the best spot in Australia to paddleboard".

Similar to windsurfing at South West Rocks in the 80s and 90s. It was fairly common the get twenty or more windsurfers out at any one time back then.

Boy your sailing well! Looks like if you survive learning at SW rocks you turn out a pretty good sailor.. Don't think I'd handle sailing there very well and I've been sailing 20 years +
