A few from NZ are contemplating going to the US nationals in Hood River this year. Its on in July. Someone has just mentioned to me that historically, there has been more of a focus on Formula racing at the US nationals. I've been told by the organisers of this year's event that they are hoping it will be a 50/50 mix of formula and slalom. "hoping" being the opperative word, which make me worried that if there is a bias towards formula at the US nationals, that we may not get much slalom racing in. Which is all I want to go there for. (as well as a few FullSail beers ofcourse). Any comments and suggestions welcome.

Formula does get priority as it's what counts for the overall US tour championship. If they get the Formula completed then they normally throw in a few slalom races but they have an upwind leg included rather than a pure downwind slalom. Come prepared for Formula but be pleasantly suprised if they do slalom. A few years ago Alex Aguera did the Formula course racing on a slalom board and 7.0 sail, placing second in a few rounds, so you could probably do something similar if you wanted, just bring a big fin!
