Hi,
I'm getting my gear back out of the shed for the first time in the last 10 years as my daughter is now old enough to start learning. I may as well get my gear together as well!
1st job will be replacing all the tendons in my bases but thought it's worthwhile also replacing the safety ropes. Bases are Neil Pryde and North.
What ropes are people using for UJ safety ropes? I'm thinking 2mm dyneema, does that sound right?
Thanks
Stan

Dear Stan,
Normally I use 3mm or 4 mm. 2mm is thin.
2mm is thin but for dyneema has a 450kg breaking load. With 2 runs I reckon 900kg should hold a broken uj.
Will order 2 and 3 mm and report back...
If it is standard it is 4mm downhaul rope.
That enables you to simply tie a knot in the end. If you do that with 2mm you are risking it slipping throught the whole when most needed.
Why over think it? Use old downhaul rope.
Old downhaul rope wouldn't fit, it needs to be a lot narrower. This photo should show the rope I'm
trying to replace, the small white safety line...

Go to a yacht chandlery and match the required rope for your needs and specification.
If they're 10 years old you may have trouble separating the UJ bolts to get the tendons off. May need to replace the assembly.
Good point but all came apart perfectly.
Unfortunately Scotland isn't too hot on local chandleries or windsurf shops!
Have ordered lengths of 2mm and 3mm braided SK78 dyneema, will report back on what works.
aaahhhh those things
Yeah the NP rebranded Arrows / Aeron etc.
In that case yes - it so damned thin get the best stuff you can find.
