Finally back there! Thanks to foiling that makes racing in Garda's conditions possible. Patrik and AV boards leading on day two. Day three another one of light wind, eight heats completed in the morning but no Ora showing up in the afternoon.

AV boards? You also mentioned on the foil thread Point-7?
Wondering if the gusty winds caused all the recalls.
I didn't realise the PWA hadn't been going to Garda because the winds were "too light". I know it doesn't blow really hard there very often, but when one of the most famous sailing spots in the world is considered "too light" then something was very wrong. Good to see that foiling has solved the issue.

It is in the women, Femke van der Veen is on AV Boards / Point-7, currently first place. I think I saw an AV in the men but not sure www.avboards.com/modena-foil/ (And I am not sure what is going on with AV boards, the site has not been updated, and the boards are no longer sold online by Point-7. This after a big sale of slalom gear that brought me the AV Modena 98
)
Chris: I do not actually know why PWA has not been to Garda in decades. But the wind there can be finicky and very light, as this event showed. They spent two days waiting for it and in day two they raced in 7-12 ... maybe possible with fin, but foil has a big advantage there.

Starboard according to this files.pwaworldtour.com/Torbole_Registered_Equipment.htm
Karo von Tonder on fin AVs and Danny Kater on AV foil although he doesnt seem to be in any results.

Boh ... I just got it from the PWA site: "Women's Femke van der Veen (AV Boards / Point-7) heads up the overnight rankings at the close of day two after recording a bullet and a third in the opening two eliminations." Maybe it is a typo on their part, or maybe she switched boards ... www.pwaworldtour.com/index.php?id=35&tx_news_pi1%5Bnews%5D=7121&tx_news_pi1%5Bcontroller%5D=News&tx_news_pi1%5Baction%5D=detail&cHash=531208998ab551d3c1d663e910e93ad1
Edit: I checked the video, it looks like a Starboard/Point-7 from the colors of the board, so probably a typo on the PWA site.
I hacked the PWA website. Got the rankings with sponsors!

I think Maciek was testing the new Phantom foils but went back to his Z-Foils.
He registered z-foil for this event ( and won the overall)
Finally wind! And some very exciting racing with absolutely great drone video. I really have to take back my impression that foil racing was going to be boring! And, as much as I love fin sailing, well ... in the PWA fin racing is dead for these conditions
Men
1st Maciek Rutkowski (POL | FMX Racing / Challenger Sails)
2nd Pierre Mortefon (FRA | Fanatic / Duotone / Phantom Foils)
3rd Will McMillan (THA | Starboard / Challenger Sails / Patrik Foils)
Women
1st Justine Lemeteyer (FRA | FMX Racing / S2Maui / LokeFoil)
2nd Blanca Alabau (ESP | Starboard / Severne Sails)
3rd Marion Mortefon (FRA | Fanatic / Duotone / Phantom Foils)
He can sail anything well. He was very fast on a techno but his focus currently is foil including iqfoil & the olympics, foil slalom and wing-foil where he took part in the last wing nationals.
Hey Ric - exciting racing you have to admit!
The brand swapping was well discussed on the live feed!
His board got 'cut-in-half' (exageration!) so he borrowed the patrik borad to compete in the rest of the races.
And his foils didn't arrive in time so he had to switch to the new Aeon Patrik foils a day or 2 before the competition.
17 year old Will McMillan doing really well, can he sail as well with a fin?
TBD! I don't think he owned a slalom board before the Starboad's arrived!
I remember when Will used to roll us at the starts in the NSW foil series the other year just going full gas low and fast....and he was only 15 and 90kgs then, Ben was saying he's 110kg Now :0 He's always been bulk fast in a straight line and fantastic in the gybes etc, what a legend.
He was doing flying tacks while practising for the Australian IQ title at RQYS earlier this year. Why is Will using THI 001 as his sail number.
Don't forget Grae Morris who came sixth in the IQfoil Europeans last weekend beating a fleet of Olympians. He won the iq Euro under 21's and beat Will at the RQYS foil nationals in January '23. Both are members of WSC at Rose Bay. It would great to see Grae do PWA but his focus is currently Olympic country selection at the IQ worlds. I've been flogged by both of them, first Raceboards then foils.

Apparently hes racing under a Thai passport due to his parentage according to the PWA broadcast.

He was doing flying tacks in Garda in between heats on his biggest (!) 550 Patrick front wing...

The latest windsurf.tv video talks about him (in glowing terms). He took a replacement board from a different brand, literally hoped on with virtually no tuning or adjustments and raced some of the world's best.
@7:24 for the next 4 min.
some seem to have already made purchasing decisions based on the PWA Torbole results ![]()

A PWA top 16 windsurfer can't get a sail sponsor, but I imagine a top 16 Wingdinger would easily get sponsors because it is growing.

Rytis also produces some good videos on youtube as well, foil and fin. He did several POV videos in training and race heats. Excellent coverage for a sponsor. He wasnt at this event, but did the IQ foil and finished 33rd. Top Lithuanian, so perhaps wants to go to the Olympics. Who wouldnt?
