maybe but with a bigger sail you have to drag it through the wind so i dunno some people say like point your toes or something

I just read a Windsurf Mag Article with tips from Micah Buzanis, mainly related to racing...but fast is fast.

Match Up - train with a partner to check changes in set up and learn from each other

Tension your battens to remove creases. But not too much on the top ones to keep the sail flat

Push the Rig Away - longer harness lines to extend your arma s far as poss.

Get your boom height right - nose height for light wind (forehead height 4 formula) and shoulder height for high wind.

Lead don't follow(in Racing) fisrt to the start mark is usually first to finish.

Ditch your uphaul rope - apparently it creates noticable wind drag (never heard this one before)

Rig Big

There were other tips about tuning, training etc.

Adding my 2 cents worth - make sure youhave a good and relaible fin.

Downwinders - sail deep!

What board do you have, and how fast are you going ?

Speed is very dependent on gear and conditions.

Get Gem Halls beginner to winner DVD + Guy Cribbs DVD's great tips there..Google Guy Cribb intuition..
From memory extend your arms to hold the rig more upright, bend your back leg , point toes..? that's to get going in lighter winds.. I've probably forgotten some so everyone please feel free to add..

Get a GPS
You can use the GPS to improve the settings on your gear, your posture and how you attack the course.

Software such as realspeed or GPSactionreplay allows you to analyze your individual runs so you can pick up inefficiencies like bearing away to much.

Do a few runs, tweak, do some more tweak again, don't just rig up on the beach and not then not tune whilst out on the water, unless you have that PERFECT setting (as rare as rocking horse poo) you will only hit the wall and not go anywhere.

Adjustable outhaul is your friend, worth around 1+knot for a Nautical mile speed on a run with holes in it, can save an hour session (if chasing as part of the Teams challenge)

If you feel like you are going 100 mph then you most likely aren't
Smooth gives confidence
Confidence allows you to push harder before your freckle starts clenching, but if you start out feeling like you are on the limit then you are unlikely to push it further.

Don't tense up, relax and have fun, let out a "Yeahargh" when you enter your run, it's amazing what this does for you.
Screaming in terror like a little biatch when going down the run is only going to give your mates ammunition in the car park afterwards.

When you see a big gust coming don't dig your heels in, lean back into the harness and point your toes.
Occasionally look down at your board to see where the water is coming out (stop you digging your heels)

If you haven't already got them, then get yourself a Helmet and a PFD.
If you are sailing at 110% (which is what we do with speed by pushing boundaries) then sh1t is going to happen.
For super stormy days with nasty chop I use an impact vest, it's amazing what this does for your confidence especially after the first stack of the day.

If you want extra weight get yourself a 3 litre camel pack, 3kg of extra weight with neutral buoyancy when immersed.
These have the added advantage of being able to provide a drink when you are out on the course, saves you going back to the car when thirsty, it's surprising how dehydrated you can get even in winter and how much that affects your sailing.

Sail with someone who is slightly quicker than you

If you are doing bear aways and blasting down wind. then rig as big a sail as you can only just hang onto coming back up wind.
Sailing back up wind shouldn't look pretty, if it's easy then you've probably rigged to small.

Most importantly, have fun
