Tipps for Noosa river mouth?

generally its a pretty easy place to sail. i've only sailed there in nnw to ne winds. the water does move in / out quite quickly in some spots but its all pretty managable

though you may feel safer with an in coming tide as a first timer, you'll find out going tide easier to get planing as it pushes you into the northerly wind.

i last sailed it in march. there was a great flat water strip in the s-bend into the mouth that the kiters love. the run there never used to be very long but it was great when i was last there

there was not much in the way of a launching beach left at the mouth since the reconstruction of the beaches, and you might have to launch at the dog walking beach slightly into the river a bit. There is some parking near this.

the sand moves around a lot and the beach at the mouth might regenerate over time

it can be a fun little spot

Damn, that brings back some memories. Doing my Year 12 back in 1988, I travelled up there for a 2 week study holiday. 8 hours study a day, 4 in the morning, 4 in the afternoon. My only breaks were to windsurfing in the river mouth. I had some cracking sessions. I think I was on a Tyronsea Stinger with a Neil Pryde sail. Good times.

Went to Noosa for my honeymoon in 1982. Great sailing in the river mouth and estuary as well as best post-cyclone surf they'd had at Noosa for years, breaking in all the bays , 6-8 ft and the cleanest waves that even I could surf, and my beautiful wife topless on the beach. Oh the memories!
On a more serious note : McTavish 2.7m trifin waveboard, Simmer 4.8m2, whatever coloured fin looked good on the day....it was all pretty simple.
Those were 7 seriously good days!!!

problem wit the noosa river mouth is noosa.

if you have a 4wd a quick trip to north shore is worth it. then you have a good launch to get into the mouth.
