The format of the competition means that there is a result no matter what happens, so despite the low wind some people still went out to score some points.
Junior Freestyle was the first out, and then followed a ding dong battle in the junior competition with three people fighting it out in the howling 5 knots.

Poledancer was the only master on the water, so he automatically scores the highest points for the day.

Hopefully the forecast southerly comes through tomorrow.

Hi Nebs Wow 5 knots mate, that must of been interesting getting out.
Well hope things change tom it all looking good at this stage.
Its just when it will come though. If it reaches forecast strength there could be some exiting times up here and down there have fun.

the wind seems to be moving north at a rate of 100kms every 2 - 2.5 hours, so hopefully the change will hit currumbin by 9 - ish?

got your calculator handy nebs? what is the prediction?

the guys had a great turn out today. heaps of people signed on. watching the juniors battle it out in the light winds, was good entertainment.

when the southerlies come through it is going to be an impressive sight. today the swell was head high and hollow in the bigger sets. saw plenty of surfers get nice tubes.

the forecast for 20-30 knots and mast high can only be a good thing. same as last years event.

Judging by the photo you must have shrunk considerably since I saw you last.

By examining some fish entrails, watching the swallows fly, playing the lyre and sniffing the wind, I reckon maybe later than 9am, hasn't come into Coffs yet, but arrows are good in Newcastle. (Btw Laurie, why is Coffs Harbour below Newcastle in the Graphs page? Shouldn't it be further north so higher than everything else?)

Not looking forward to cutting out 12 more sail numbers for my 5.0 (or will that tempt Huey too much?)

(Edit: fixed geographical locations...)

Should be good. Cutting out numbers for my 5.0 now.

Congratulations to Junior Freestyle for winning the junior division, and to Ollie for winning the masters. There were winners in other divisions, but I can't remember who they were.
There was some stiff competition out there, the standard of sailing was very high, and it was great to see so many sails out on the water.

Personally I found it very difficult as the southerly didn't come in as strong as I would have liked, which combined with the sweep meant that I didn't have enough wind to waterstart... this is mostly to do with technique as the top guys didn't seem to be bothered that much. Very impressive to see the skills of the top sailors.

Thanks again to Tony Marsh for organising the event again this year, top job, well done.

I'm off to bed
