Kicks off Friday 22nd for 10 days. Womens wave, mens wave, mens freestyle and mens slalom.
Forecast is light at the start, but enough for slalom. 1 to 1.5m waves. Will they get off the beach?
Podium regular on the IQFoil Seb Kordel is entered, seeing as its his home event. Nico Goyard also, on his kit he selected for Sotavento. Overall rankings is tight for 1st/2nd, 1 place in it. Should be interesting.

Sadly no women slalom, although they produced some of the most exciting racing so far this season. Apparently victim of budget shortfall... a real shame!
Elim 4 heat 1 1st reach, wave slalom returns to the PWA!

That one little break shows how much more challenging the boardhanding is when the racing is in the surf, as it was in real surf slalom.
I'm really enjoying the coverage so far. The freestyle drone from behind is great. All the camera feeds are high quality.
surprised there are only 100 or so watching on YouTube. Pretty spectacular event so far, deserving more
viewers.
Loving watching. You can see all the hard work being put in. The freestyle, slalom, wave format really works so well. Imagine Fiji with slalom and freestyle thrown in.
Amazing action on the race course again; skill level is insane. And great to see the Belgian freestylers still on top of their game ![]()
Some of us have wanted to see wave windfoiling get more visibility. Never imagined it would be during slalom racing. ![]()
If they dont get any more slalom action in, this is what the overall looks like with just Japan to go.
Pretty tight. Top 4 covered by 100 points = 1 place.

A disappointment to see such good sailors in such poor conditions.
It is a world tour and the champion need to deal with that. Everyone sails good in easy DTL conditions with some exceptions that are outstanding. In Sylt you need to show that you can also deal with those heavy shore break and make the best of it. And the week before Sylt PWA started it was like this. Just to let you know. Big thanks to the unknown photographer on DD for sharing . Cheers

They should have stayed a bit longer. In 4 days it will be same again.
I typically do not watch sports but this was great to see. Ben commenting and great drown shots being so close to the action. Even seeing the pros in those conditions getting pounded in Shorebreak was fun. Someone wrote.:"I never felt more like a pro". So true.
Awesome coverage. Mybe the best ive ever watched.
Goyard has so much more top end over the field its a joke.
Looks like the only way he can lose a race is if he catapults or falls off a gybe.
His gybes look the best also.
There was also a (male
) riders meeting in Sylt to discuss racing format for next year. Sounds like there will be separate fin/foil races (with separate prize money and titles); not clear whether there will be actual separate events, or separate fleets racing in the same event, potentially consecutively to allow racers to participate in one or the other, or both. Much will probably depend on event organizers and, more importantly, their budgets.

Sounds more expensive for all parties ![]()

I guess we will be seeing a lot more cancelled races in the fin division if its light again then. ![]()
yes; event organizers will have to put up more prize money to host both disciplines, but with a higher risk of cancellation of heats it's an even taller order.

Is this for all PWA events or just Sylt? It would seem for a deeper pocket organizer, it encourages bigger fleets and more participant attendance. May be challenging for smaller ones, though.
Even as foiler, hoping there's enough money/interest to make this work not because I think the events should be separate but to help light wind fin to progress and innovate.
Details are still to be worked out but my understanding is that the choice will be left to the event organizers, as always subject to the PWA's (new) specifications for hosting a racing event; these will include requirements around prize money for each discipline. Key is that there will no longer be mixed fleets, and that there will be a separate ranking/title.
