I use windguru for the wind but their surf forecast is an average of all the swells. Magicseaweed used to be great for the individual swells but the website is redirecting to Surfline which is terrible. Any better websites for surf forecast?
I agree Surfine is crap and I emailed them and said so. Got a response too but it's still crap. Using Willyweather for a rough idea
In Australia, particularly Victoria in my experience , Swellnet is excellent for surf forecasting.
Windguru wave models work reasonably well here in Southern Victoria though. I think it depends a lot on your actual location.
Probably not many sites have their own forecast models?
As been playing around with Open-Meteo API lately. Not an app or really comfortable to use but gives an idea behind the sites maybe...open-meteo.com/en/docs/marine-weather-api
Surfline is the biggest waste of time....Bring back MagicSeaweed
Or someone please make a better surf forecast site.
What are they actually doing with the data? (which is free from Noaa) That MSW also used.
Same data!
They must feed it into some algorithm that chews it all up and spits out a forecast based on how much money they want to take form your wallet. It certainly doesn't correlate to the conditions here. (Cornwall UK)
Maybe Surfline is run by surfers who want to keep everyone away from the beach? Super selfish greedy surfers purposely putting out false surf forecasts and reports?
Surfline shows good conditions when the wind is onshore and short period swell....What a load of ****!
Yes, Ive told them that!!...the response I got from 'Chase' :
"While we appreciate more general feedback; specifics will allow us to directly follow up on what you've brought to our attention.
If you ever notice a discrepancy in the future with our forecast data that you would like us to follow up on, please let us know the spot name as listed on Surfline, the date and approximate time of your observation, and details on how this differs from the actual conditions. (e.g. June 20th around 10am at Zuma Beach: Surfline forecast 3-4ft waist to chest; Observed surf height 1-2ft knee to thigh...).
With the information above our forecast engineers will be able address any potential root causes as efficiently as possible."
So .....They want me to do the job for them?....and pay to subscribe for my efforts?
I offered to supply the info to correct their forecasts, but my 40 years of experience comes with a fee - They failed to pay.
Oh and I should pay for premium so I can see cams on the beach (that have always been open access)
The forecast is so far out. I would have more chance of an accurate prediction reading taro cards.
I even tried the 'Premium' surfline experience....... It would be more use to super glue my eyes shut.
I will survive, I know how to read isobars and weather charts.
Peace
Windguru is rubbish for Western Australia. Only gives you a rough idea. If you want a proper forecast for WA go to BOM. In particular their Meteye tool.
to be honest i think they all suck except the bom.
one of the Australian surf forecast sites asked me if they could use one of my surf photos for an article on Burleigh heads.
i agreed on the condition they gave me a 12 month subscription.
they used the photo and never gave me a subscription. when i followed up i got ghosted.
eventually i got an email from them offering me a fantastic deal.
if i became a subscriber, and upload my shots every month, i might be lucky enough to have them select one of my shots for use on their platform.
they are nothing more than used car salesman.
Seabreeze is the best for me.
For surf and wind. If using the app, can put in local beach and it tweaks a little for home.
Recently a new weather station got installed at a marine rescue station, I messaged seabreeze boss and asked if they can get local observations put into a graph on seabreeze for home, but hey we're well obliging, but so far marine rescue hasn't come to the party to give them what they need.
