I am thinking of going on hols at Gero and I am also thinking of staying near sunset beach. What is it like to sail at? Is it suitable for a beginner and early intermediate? Are there any major rips, rocks etc that I should be aware of and what is the main wind direction?

Thanks in advance for all the wonderful assistance and tips.

Nat sunset caravan park is best to stay at for comfort etc..... but sunset is certainly not for intermediates. You want to go to Coronation (20min north of Gero) or stop short at Cervantes, Jurien or Greenhead.
Coro's is the best, but camping is basic (ie take every single thing you'll need).

PS any relation to Craig Keals?

Mark, I very rarely disagree with you but, I have to qualify this one.
Sunsets is fine for anybody if the swell is low, no shallow reef to worry about, right on the caravan Pk's doorstep, even my wife sails there.
But once the swell starts building she wants to go to coro or St Georges.

That's because I'm rarely wrong hahahahaha (flame suit now on, here they come...)

Yeah true, in low swell it is fine, but the beach is steep so there is not a long section of waist deep for practising inside gybes. It is safe for intermediates but not ideal I guess.
